    skimmer

That seems to be how Prizms work. Mine is taking up space on a shelf. The flow needs turned down until it is almost off to stop the water in the collection cup and bubbles from returning to the tank. I have been told that after it is running for some time that you can turn it up to about 1/3...

    Fluval Stackup, Nitrate factory?

I ran a Fluval before I put on a sump. I did not use the ceramic rings and I swapped out the filter pads weekly (removed and cleaned the ones in the filter and let them dry and replaced them with a clean dry set). My nitrates never went above 15 and dropped to 5 after a 10% water change.

    power outage what to do?

Battery operated air pumps - $10. They make one now that will go on when the power goes out automatically - $12. Usually our power is back on before anyone has the chance to put the pumps in the water. The longest that our power was ever out was 8 hours. One set of batteries was still...

I'm still hand picking the grunge out of my tank. Big disappointment. They threw in some free corals on my next order because of it. If you are going to add it, I suggest putting it in a refugium or pump and not on your sand bed.

    Hi Nitrates

Do you make your own RO water? Do you have a TDS meter to make sure the water is near pure?

    Hi Nitrates

Finding the source for starters. What type of water do you use?Are you overfeeding? How long has the tank been set up? Are you using a protein skimmer? Are you running any type of filter? If so, what filter media are you using in it and how often do you change it?

    adding another clown

Adding two, as suggested by Buzz, would probably be the better way to go. I've added them in groups like that and generally the interest of the established fish is to find a friend. However, once it picks one out, those two may go after the third. Unfortunately clowns are like damsels and you...

what to expect from my new seaclone 100 in the first days of life

Although I've never used a Seaclone, most skimmers require several days to "break in and adjust to the tank." After that period, you should be able to fine tune it to your tank.

I Guess Its True ... Why Bother Putting Up Questions ... No One Bothers To Answer

The best advice I've seen above is from Grouperhead. A lot of redundant posts are ignored simply because people get tired or annoyed with answering the same questions over and over. A search in most cases will find your answer. A lot of times a post lacks detail. There simply isn't enough...

    is this too much circulation

The best answer that I can give you is that I have always targeted for 12 times tank volume for fish and 15 to 20 for a reef. Filtration needs to be equated to water movement and oxygen exchange at the surface. Your goal should be to get the tank saturated with oxygen which means making sure...

Putting PVC on a Powerhead for my Nano, help and opinions

This may make a difference because I have an Amiracle SL-5 hang on wet/dry that was previously used on a larger tank, but here's what I have: A Maxijet 400 feeding into plastic tubing going up the rear right side and across the top of the right side (most LFS carry the size tubing that fits...

    Chiller and algae

The IceProbe can be mounted into anything that allows it to sit in water with a 1 1/4 inch hole. An Aquaclear Mini or a filter along that line works well with no media in the filter. If you try to put it directly into the tank as you seem to be suggesting above, make sure that it is secure. I...

    Ice Cap 660

One more thing that you may want to check, because this happened to me: When the place that I bought the system mounted it in my canopy, someone there put a wire staple through one of the wires in the harness (and had the gaul to try to charge me $20 for having an electrician look at it when it...

    Amonia, 3 tanks WTF?

Anything you are adding to the water that may be causing a false reading? Good news with the Salifert test - It's lowest level reading is <.5 so you're already under that!

    Ice Cap 660

Mary gave good advice. When you say "replaced the unit" do you mean you replaced the ballast? There is also some information on the icecap website for troubleshooting. It covers capping off different wires to isolate where the problem is.

    Raccoon Butterfly

I've never had a problem getting them to eat standard meaty frozen fish foods (once you get them to eat). Raccoon's tend to be among the hardier of butterflies, but they still stress easily and can't be in tanks with aggressive tank mates. They also tend to like swimming room and can get big...
