    Power Consumption: PC Vs. VHO

I am by no means an electrical anything, but the type of ballast that is used supposedly impacts power consumption. For example, Icecap ballasts claim to be 30% more efficient than other ballasts (I think this is electrical vs. magnetic). They can be used for either type of bulb.

    Tiny "anemones" on the glass?

Do they look like anemones or tiny starfish? You can find a picture of aiptasia here: http://www.reefs.org/hhfaq/pages/mai.../faq_rock1.htm If they look like tiny starfish instead, they are harmless.

    Yellow Tank w/ Black Flecks

brenner_jeff It was late last night when I responded to this. I just read your post again, and noticed that you've had the fish for a long time. Have you introduced anything new into the tank recently that may have carried a parasite in with it? If not, then I find it hard to believe that...

    Ro/di

I have the same one that Javatech has and it works great. It comes with the self-piercing connector, along with a hose and faucet adaptor and plenty of tubing. Basically mine was plug and play.

    RO/DI Hookups/Usage/How to!

Connecting mine permanently isn't an option, because when it comes to plumbing I'm an idiot. Now that the weather is nice, I have a hose hookup that feeds into a 10 gallon tank. The rejected water is either dumped into a large rubbermaid container and used to water the plants, or is directly...

You are correct. I missed the DI last night. It was late :) .

    Quick Question.......

My understanding of spring water is that it contains a lot of minerals. If you can't get RO/DI water, the best bet is to use distilled.

    high water temp

If you have a glass cover or hood, open it. This will help with evaporational cooling. Also try blowing a fan down across the water. The little plastic personal fans that are sold will accomplish this. Properly positioned, it can bring the temperature down 4 to 5 degrees. Don't fret too...

    Why a "deep" sand bed?

Originally posted by Bang Guy I don't remember the article going over increasing sand bed depth. If it does then by all means ignore my post. I'm confident that if you add no more than 1/2" a week the sand bed critters will have time to colonize the new sand without suffocating. It does say...

    Yellow Tank w/ Black Flecks

As described, it is caused by a parasite (turbellarian worm) that imbedes into the skin. Usually it affects only tangs. It does not spread rapidly and often does not seriously affect the health of the fish unless they become very heavily infested. Recommended treatment is a 3 minute...

Chiller probe? Removes heat from h2o?

Probe should be about $100. Temp controller if I recall was about $50. Based on my experience with it, I wouldn't use it on a tank of 20 gallons or less without the temperature controller. If you were using two on a larger tank, I would make sure that at least one of them had a temperature...

70 gallon water change on my 210, MAN my back hurts!

Maury If you get a chance, look at the thread on "Our reputation is at stake" and see if that picture matches the problem that you are having. That may save you some grief until a solution is found. Based on your current reading levels, it doesn't seem like it is coming from nutrients, so it...

    Yellow Tang

They are herbivores and like to graze all day long. A lettuce clip or two with the seaweed selects or some nori. I have at least two types of it in at all times. They will also eat most macro-algaes (caulerpa, tang heaven, etc). I also use some Formula II flakes for more diet variation. A...

Best blace to buy a canopy

Mine was $92 from my LSF. I'm not sure of shipping costs on those because of the weight and size of the canopy, so if you do find one on line, make sure you factor that into your cost.

Our reputation here is on the line!

I now remember some green fuzzy stuff starting to form on my live rock when I first got it (literally the first couple of days). Since I never had live rock before I thought it was the "live" part of the rock, but in a few days realized that it was some sort of hair algae forming. I added some...
