    Put up or shut up!

in all fairness to he who shant be named that picture is quite old. i remember seeing it months ago. i would like to see an updated shot though. the thing with using tapwater is that its chemically different in every geographic location so you CAN'T "just use tap". RO/DI on the other hand...

    Time to Frag The Beast!

i have fragged a kenya tree coral before which is a soft coral somewhat similar to what you have. i've found the key is to place the cut end near a piece of rock. it somehow attached itself within 24-72 hours and took off. the methods above are about as fool proof as they get. good luck.

    Next coral of choice??

depends on how much space you have. everything you've listed has the potential to spread like a weed. adding xenia to that mix is the king weed coral but a good size colony pulsing does look good and i have experience trading it in every couple of weeks for free stuff. i like brains...

    rock/lighting question

ditto on the light. just make sure direct sunlight doesn't hit the tank for very long or youll run into algae problems.

    please help polyp gonna die

hmmm, i need to know the name of the coral. a white web indicates decay/death of a coral or some sort of sponge creature. from what i've seen its the last gasp stage of soft corals and corallinomorphs(shrooms/polyps) if its dying. but like i said need to know the name of the coral. for now...

Is this guy a bristle worm?

mmm potentially you have alot. if your tank is young then probably not unless the rock you bought had alot of them, or the sand. one be careful not to touch them, the spines feel like a bazillion splinters. two, the one you have is harmless and will help clean your tank. i'd leave him alone...

    Clown and which anenome?

hmmm, another anemone person :) i don't mean that in a bad way but i try and stay away from anemones like the plague. a rare few live longer than a year. its also no garauntee the clown will take the anemone and host it. i don't really know what tomatoes like. i want to say carpet anemones...

clown died... probably ich. What to do next?

mmmm, i don't know about the 24 hour thing. so long as your damsel is in that tank ich is there. wether it takes a hold on him or not all depends on alot of factors you seem to already know about. look around though, ich has been discussed quite a few times since i joined and i don't have...

    Which uv sterilizer?

i can't tell you which is good but i personally would not waste my money on it especially since you have live rock. i have no experience but have heard the light will end up killing more good things than bad things. a fowlr has the potential to grow alot of microlife which can help to feed...

Do frogspawns need to be spot fed...?

i have a few lps corals. 2 types of euphyllias(glabrescens and hammer), caulastrea(trumpet), and a plerogyra(bubble). i've noticed the bubble will accept some food as will the trumpets but the euphyllias will not. i think its more a matter of do you provide food sources in the water column...

clown died... probably ich. What to do next?

how do you know it was ich? did the fish that died have white spots on them? you need to isolate the remaining fish and watch him for a couple weeks. the life cycle of most diseases is 4 weeks. better to wait five. i stress not to be impatient on this or youll kill more fish. do not use...

    SPS People Look Here

As for the DT's i would dose with it no more than twice a week. I used to dose phytoplex which is kents dead phytoplankton and ever since i've stopped haven't really noticed much. I now use microvert every now and again. Feeding the fish daily and making sure some of the food gets smashed up...

    SPS People Look Here

You could cut that back to once a week if you run into water quality problems. Thing is, sps require meaty foods. So you need zooplankton rather than phytoplankton which DT's is. You probably won't notice much of a difference if you stop dosing but the plankton is more than likely food for...

    Can Someone ID this please?

A little of both. They aren't big enough to be recongnizable. they could be a number of things from old mini feather duster tubes to hydroids. I take it since they are 'growing' its probably not the duster tubes. Does anything come out of the tubes? Could be some sort of sponge/tunicate...

    fill tank with tapwater

Yes it will. Tell him to start brushing the stuff off the rock and doing water changes at the same time once a week. He should also limit feedings as much as possible and not leave the lights on for longer than 8 hours. Do that and it should clear up.

    Acro Problems/STN?

I could try. Space is becoming semi limited and as you said it doesn't seem like alot of current. The only thing you mentioned which i kind of thought of was that it is constant. I will see what i can do. Good thing i have the day off tomorrow. Do some aquascaping again.

How can I get rid of brown algae/diatoms???

Definitely. Try and stick to once a day and try and drop enough so it all disappears. Fish will eventually associate you with food. Looks like they already do. I know they do for me. If you are not having algae problems in the future you could up this but keep in mind what gets left in the...
