How long can a carol stay a life?

Depends on the coral I guess but most (given the right conditions) should be able to live forever considering they continuously grow/split/regenerate/etc. If I have a coral die I consider it my fault and assume I did something wrong... I never assume old age.

So whats your take on this subject?

I run mine wet... IME wet skimming does a better job of nutrient removal in my tank.

    Coral Accelerator

Ditto on good water quality and lighting... IMO those types of products are a waste of money and just mess up the water quality.

    Power Filters

Skimmer, Live Rock, Live Sand, Sump & Refuge... no power filter needed IMO.

    Too Much Light?

so the pc's would be too much with the mh?? Not to much at all... I would run the PCs with the MHs. If I had 150w of VHO and 130w of PC would this be enough for anenonmes as well as a clam? Depends on the type of anemone and clam but with the 250w MH you would be able to keep anything you wanted to.

need help on choosing calcium supplement

ESV B-Ionic Calcium Buffer or equal would by far be the best for a 12g nano. It not only adds calcium but it also adds alkalinity in a balanced proportion. Don't forget the calcium and alkalinity test kits... Salifert makes some of the best test kits for ca/alk.

    Metal Halide Questions

You may be able to get by with 2-150w DE MHs if the clam can be placed high in the tank but if it were me I'd go for a couple 250w MHs. Lighting wise, 2-250w MHs will allow you to keep about anything placed about anywhere.

    New tank suggestions

Double ended bulbs offer a few advantages over the single ended. They produce far more par watt for watt than the single ended & they last longer. Disadvantages would be that the initial cost is more and you have to have a glass shield to filter UVs... but most fixtures come with the glass...

    Purple Up..The STUFF or what?

Buy a calcium additive and a calcium test kit and keep levels around the 400 to 450 range. You will have a purple tank in short order. Don't forget about alkalinity... when adding calcium the alkalinity needs to be tested and added accordingly. Coralline and calcifying corals need both...
