kill 2 birds with my canister idea?

Sure. If you want, run the return through a "Switching Current Water Director" or SCWD. You can get them for under $40. I'd keep some ceramic noodles in there to catch big stuff, rinse them in tank water weekly to avoid nitrate buildup.

    2 maroon clowns gold stripes?

2 usually works ok as far as aggression towards eachother goes, however, when a type of fish is generally a little aggressive towards other species, they tend to be more so if they have a mate. Clowns are usually a good second fish to add but maroons are a bit of an acception because they may be...

    Can fish choke to death?

Yes, they can choke. Don't put in pieces that are too big. Freeze dried food can be soaked in fresh water for a minute first which also helps.

Be aware malachite green is very dangerous for pregnant people. It is easily absorbed through the skin and can cause many birth defects as well as cancer.

    Brand new here!!!! Go Easy!!!!

Welcome. Heres a list of acronyms we use abbreviations I'm a big fan of aquaclears, but not on a tank with sand.

    Black Sand.....

It's a little less dense so you just need to get a slightly bigger grade. I don't remember where they stuff I use is from (I keep thinking Italy) but it's more like tiny pebbles than sand. It's about 1/10 the size of the head of a pin. For some reason it never had any algae grow on it.

    Harlequin tusk-hardiness and compatability

Be aware that although they usually won't eat small fish they grow up with, if you add another of a type you already have, they may eat that then turn on their original tankmates. Please buy an Australian specimen as opposed to a Phillipine one because the Phillipine ones are cyanide caught.

    Type of starfish

I'd hate to think this, but it looks dyed to me. The way the dark color goes up the spikes a little doesn't look natural.

Is 2 Triggers in the same tank OK?

What you see at LFS has no relevance. Personally I wouldn't keep a Huma with anything. They tend to suddenly go on psycotic killing sprees with no warning. The Niger on the other hand is fairly peaceful towards tankmates including other triggers.

    Help! Broken Hydrometer

Yep, those are usually lead, you really need to get that out. Things in your tank can absorb it and become poisonous forever.

    Lights and Algea

Check for phosphates. The only time I ever started over was when the electricity went out for a week and it was 95 degrees.

    Buying a Lobster from Wal-Mart.

Wow, I'm glad I never mentioned my idea for a tuna tank.

LFS guy here- Easiest way to explain a cycle?

It's like a septic tank. Bacteria breaks down the waste into non-poisonous elements. You have to build up enough bacteria to handle the waste from the fish that will be going in. IMO, I wouldn't tell people to cycle with LR only, you'll be severly restricting their tank type options. Not...

DIY Rock - cure in the ocean?

This may be illegal for you, unless you own the reef. If it's government waters you cant add the rock, because that would be dumping, or take it out because of what will end up living on it either. By the way, the guys who lease the area for aquaculturing LR leave it in the water for about 8 months.
