    acrylic or x dave

Only clean the bioballs with tank water so you don't kill the bacteria. Any enviromental change can cause an outbreak of some sort. If you keep it clean eventually the coraline will increase enough to choke out the ugly stuff.

    pregnant?

I wouldn't suggest it whether pregnant or not. Be careful if you have any fish meds around too. Malachite green for instance, which is in quite a few different fish meds, is very bad.

Do filter feeders add to your bioload?

No kiddin! Those are alive?! Protothaca staminea, A.K.A., Tomales Bay cockle, common littleneck, rock cockle, hardshell, rock clam, steamer and butter clams. They eat phytoplankton and diatoms. Due to their short neck, they only go down about 3" or less. More info:Little Neck Clam They can be...

moorish idol need advise please ??

Please don't take him to a lfs. At least in your tank he'll have the advice of all of us. His best bet is at a zoo or government aquarium. You say he was given to you, but you saw him at the LFS?

Do filter feeders add to your bioload?

That's a very interesting question. From a practical standpoint, if you feed them, yes, if you don't, no. If they are only taking in waste material already present, and expelling less than they take in, they actually lower the bioload.

    Where to get mated pairs?

Breeders don't sell their good pairs, they put the old ones out to pasture.

    purple firefish

IMO, you might have a pair. If you have 2, and 1 becomes aggressive towards the other fishes, but not towards the other firefish, they may be a pairing up. If you want more than 1 in a community tank you need 2 females and a male. If you post a picture of the 2 I may be able to tell you if they...

    Feeding a betta

They like all larvae. They will accept freeze dried stuff more readily if you soak it in some fresh water for a few minutes first. In the summer I used to keep a bucket of water behind the garage and it would always have mosquito larvae in it. They (and all my FW fish) really love those!

    Heater options for 240g reef?

I have to agree with acrylic51, there's nothing worse than your heater going out. I always have at least 2 capable of handling the whole tank. The old general guidline is 5w/gallon, but going higher doesn't hurt.

    If you care about fish.......

Although I am a fish lover, humans come first. I'm much more concerned about the plight of the illegal aliens they exploit, the loss of jobs for legal workers and the benefiets for all of us from the taxes they would pay. First things first.

Anyone had good experiences with Clown Triggers?

A friend of mine who's a show judge had a clown Trigger for over 10 years. One day he dropped something in the tank and reached in for it. The Clown took one bite right through his arm. He kinda lucked out because it missed the tendons and mostly just got the bone. He had rods put in to replace...

    Powerheads Making Bubbles

According to a friend of mine who is a sales rep for Hagen, the only reason powerheads have an airhose is that people think they need one. Dissolved oxygen gets into the water by contact at the surface, the powerhead does this by circulation. I always just fill the inlet with silicon.

    Fox Face blowing bubbles???

Yeah, that's a new one. If I were to guess, I'd say it's more likely that you have more O2 than he's used to.

Can spotted and green mandarins be paired?

Mandarins have been bred in captivity but I doubt that different species will crossbreed.
