Im leaning twordsthe first This is for my 55g SPS.
yeah alot of people use both to keep PH stable, and calcium alk stable, but you shouldnt need to unless your on a smaller tank.
Just stick to waterchanges dude.
ahh i see god set up, in that case your biobalss are the problem, with that much live rock, bioballs "sie" and start to trap nitrates, i would slowly take them out, like a hand full a day, and maybe mod the wet/dry to make it a fuge or sump.
well you need more live rock, you want nearly 1 pound per gallon of porus rock (including base rock), i have 100+ pounds of live rock in my tank. the bacteria in the rocks can reduce the trates greatly that seems to be your problem.
Tanks filled with softies and only do waterchanges for chemicals still have 450ppm calcium, so i wouldnt worry aboutn ti much, bang guy does know his stuff.
depends on what kinds, some dont need any, some eat the food in the sand, but some filter out plankton, so you need good enough lights to make the plankton for it, cucs arent phytosysnthisis
softies dont use calcium, and LPS use little amounts
water changes are good enough
Water changes, skimmer, carbon good water quality will give you great colors.
Macro alages, Like Caulerpa (but can go sexual, so i dotn reconmend caulerpa) Cheatomorpha (great dosent go sexual, and is a fast grower) Mangroves (help take out organics), Xenia (takes out Po4 and No3(i think thats what it takes out)
do you use Crushed coral? you trates level is high. dotn worry about the fish they are smart not to get sucked in, but they might if they are dieing or very sick.
