    neverending nitrate problem

Can't argue with the sharks here..... I will add on that unless your tanks are set up exactly the same way all around then you could wonder why one tank and not the other but there are to many factors that make every tank unique and therefore almost impossible to compare...

Help me light my 72 gallon bowfront

4x48" 110 vho would be great for that tank. Or you could look into a dual halide fixture that comes with dual vhos which would also be 48'. Depends on the money you want to spend. I think the halides would be cheaper in the long run and would allow much more flexibility in coral selection...

    neverending nitrate problem

Also add feeding habits and the type of water you use. You said you've kept other tanks fine, what kind?

    Clownfish Compatability

Well true way to tell if fish are REALLY fighting is torn fins or missing scales. Otherwise is just harmless chasing, but then again if its all the time i guess its stressful. I don't know what to think about that because my damsels do it all day every day and i've had them for over a year now...

    10 Gal nano tank

No angels in a 10..... You can however do 2 clowns. There are alot of other organisms you can buy to put in the tank like a pair of shrimp or snails or crabs that add color to the tank. Corals themselves do the same. As far as waterflow goes you want to turn the water over several times an...

Anyone live on the east coast

I'm in Raleigh. If you can take a day trip here there are three stores here that sell salt. One of which has quite a few displays. I can also put you in touch with guys here in Raleigh that sell sps frags from the LFS, Kip also trades and i got a very nice hammer from him which now has 5...

    Clownfish Compatability

Ok.... You can mix percs...... You can not mix other types of clowns unless your system is big enough and that usually means a 125..... As with everything these are not set in stone rules and you may run into issues with any fish... But if you wanted to mix a black and regular perc you most...

Corals dead, missing or going to be dead

Yeah put off the water change for a while and see what happens. Just up your doseings a little bit to compensate. Maybe something with your mixing tub...? Family memeber used one day?

Well one thing you can try and figure out is how they reproduce. They seem to be free form corals and thus the harvesting of them is just a matter of picking them off the bottom of the ocean. Its very hard on any life form to be boxed up out of your natural environment and change tanks several...

Tales from the LFS: Part 2

Well i spoke in terms of saltwater fish. I know they are tank raised but genetic alterations? Other than breeding a disease out of a fish which is essentially what tank raising fish is. I just thought his comments were illinformed :) He got it from somebody whos illinformed :)

    getting bacteria and bubbles...NEED HELP!!

I don't think there is really any way of telling. A fish can starve to death over a couple of weeks and just die one day..... Same way with a starfish or snail. If they are starving you won't know until they are dead. They aren't impossible to keep i would just make sure to feed them...

    *Humpday 12-Pack.........mmmmm delicious. *

I was gonna say five looks like a hydrocoral or fire coral. Do you own that Rye? They are pretty but i've never seen one sold.....

Corals dead, missing or going to be dead

Oh thought of something. Any chance you have stong consistant water flow on any of these corals. I accidentally killed some yellow button polyps by sticking them right below the power head stream and every time they expanded couldn't because of the flow. They ended up shriveling and dying in...

Corals dead, missing or going to be dead

Problem is Mendee that his inverts are surving fine and they too are not tolerant of poor water. At the very least his shrimp and snails should be dead from any copper, while i've heard hermits can tolerate trace amounts..... Thus why im stumped :)

    getting bacteria and bubbles...NEED HELP!!

The sandsifting star feeds on waste and life in the sand bed. I've seen BIG ones and have heard many a story working at the lfs of them dying because of lack of food. They will VERY thouroughly go through your sand bed and eat what they find. Eventually the sand be will become barren of macro...

    lighting over five

You'll get much more growth once you get that halide on them. I think you just aren't pushing enough light out on them with the dual 28s.

I'm pretty sure it does have the ability to eat it. Most corals have some sort of stickiness to them. I wish i knew how it worked in the wild.... There is more micro eating i believe. Where the coral absorbs water into its skin which it in turn digests because it is full of floating eggs...

Corals dead, missing or going to be dead

Salinity yeah.... Dangit. It would affect the shrimp especially. I don't know man..... :( Sorry. I can't think of anything else other than a coral "plague" in your tank. Maybe RTN or STN rapid or slow tissue necrosis but i could have sworn that was only sps.... I just don't know. Maybe a...
