    Anemone requirements?

Mudd: I don't plan on keeping it that way. I am in the process of building a wood canopy for my tank. I have a 220 watt VHO retro kit that I am going to put in there. Since my tank is 36" long, I will only be able to use 36" bulbs which are 95 watts each. That will give me 190 watts. I will also...

    Anemone requirements?

A lot of people say that you need a lot of light to keep an anemone. I'm not going to disagree because I don't want to start any arguments. All I can tell you is that I have a 45 gallon tank with another 15 gallons in my sump. I only have 60 watts of light on my tank. Now my water on the other...

    Are these bristleworms?

I just found a bristle worm in my refugium. I got really excited when I saw it. It is only about 3/8 of an inch long. I have read on here that they are good but just what exactly are they good for?

can fish live in a fuge/sump?

Put one in and let us know. :D Just kidding. Actually yes they can. I had a Royal Gramma in my Fuge for a while and he was fine. I also had my scooter blennie in there for a while. Just be careful if you put it in the sump, that he cant get sucked into the return pump.

Explain to my dad why MH is the way to go.

Well Dad, all of the above reasons are true, but the main reason for you to buy the MHs is because you are the best Dad in the whole wide world and you would do anything to make your little boy/girl happy, and because Fathers' Day is coming up in a couple weeks. :D

    trouble with anemones

Are you sure they are dead? Anemones are not dead until you see a big blob disentegrating in your tank. Sometimes they will shrivel up to nothing, with their tentacles all drawn in, looking like just a little clump of flesh with little bumps sticking out. I used to think that mine was dead but...

    Sea Snakes!!!!!!!

Dragonfli: I would check into whether or not it is illegal to have the snake. If it is illegal, you could explain the situation and how it got into your tank, and then since it would be illegal, the authorities would have to remove the snake from your tank. Put it in their hands, so to speak. :D

Question on mixing/storing new salt water

When you first set up the tank, it is ok to mix the salt right in the tank. Afterwards you should never place the salt directly into the tank. I use two old 5 gallon water bottles. I buy my R/O water from the LFS. I fill the bottles with water and then bring it home and pour a gallon from each...

    yaya Algea algea please help

I would recommend at least 1 snail and 1 hermit for evry 5 gallons of water in our tank. I have 15 snails and 15 hermits in my 45 gallon tank which gives me 1 of each for every 3 gallons. I also have a 20 gallon sump which holds another 15 gallons of water and 5 gallons of that is my refugium...

    Sea Snakes!!!!!!!

Since that minnow trap is made of metal, wouldn't it contaminate the saltwater by being left in there? Make your own trap out of a 2 liter soda bottle. I just made one out of a 16 ounce soda bottle and it works. Cut the very top off of the bottle and discard it, although you could leave yours...

    >Water stays good?

Water changes do not need to be done weekly. They should be done monthly. Most people do a small water change every week or every other week because it is less stressful on the fish to do a small water change verses a large water change. By small I mean a 10% and a large change would be 20%. The...

    FNG has stupid ?'s

Get a razor blade and cut away all of the loose silicone. Cut away a few inches past the loose stuff to make sure you get it all. Then reseal the joints with fresh silicone from your LFS. After the silicone has cured, refill the tank and make sure the tank does not leak. If it doesn't leak, take...

    Why not halogen lights?

I was reading the local home centers sale paper and they had a halogen light fixture on sale for 20.00. It was for the fixture and bulb. It was a 500 watt fixture. I hear so much talk that corals need more wattage. Flourescents give off a cool light and MH give off a hot light as does halogen...

    micro bubbles

Go to your LFS and get a sponge that will fit across your sump and place it under your last baffle or against it so that the water "must" go through the sponge. Bubbles will not go through the sponge.
