All right - first brain buster:
What's the best way to provide access through the front of the canopy as far as materials. Are they basic swing hinges? I saw that someone had those things that you have in a piano bench if you know what I'm talking about...anyway...I could potentially work...
DONT TRUST THE MAGFLOATS AHHHH. Something tells me that those 'acrylic safe' scrubbers manage to find a way to sratch too...Does anyone know what grade of sandpaper most people start out with to polish acrylic?
To a canister filter eh? Do you need a pump for a canister filter or does it pretty much have all you need within itself? I was thinking of the best way to put a UV on my tank...how many watts for a 40 gallon?
Sorry to hear about the computer...I'm guessing your house was struck by lightning right? Your actual computer wasn't struck by lighting right b/c that would be so weird that it would almost be funny...sorry, anyway...I did get the 250W and am still looking around for the best deal on PC's...
Is there a really simple inline setup I could make with a relatively small pump for just a UV? Or should I go ahead and go wet/dry all out? The only problem is the tank is in my bedroom, so does the pump and filter get very loud?
40 g is probably too small to use it safely then right? Well what if I just turned off all of my circulation for the time it takes to 'dry' or however it does that, do a large water change, and turn everything back on. Does it have ammonia in it? I would think not, but who knows.
Good point. Is there some site or something I should read for putting these things together. I have no DIY-hanyman-black-and-decker-tim-the-toolman genius in me. Do you guys just buy all the wood at home depot or something, for those of you who built your own? It started to be just a plain old...
I was looking for a good reef package for my 40g tank. I like your basic smallest size package. The only problems are the coral banded shrimp. Do I really need 3 though? I don't know, maybe. Mostly the issue is that I have heard the coral banded aren't exactly the friendliest inverts of all...
Thanks for all the advice and pics guys. I have some hang-on-the-back equipment...how does that factor into the whole thing? I would like to put something over the back, but am not sure how to do so with the hang on parts.
The haze was sort of what I thought might happen....great...so I am pretty much screwed...no underwater solution....at all??? Oh well, it's really only the actinics that make the scratches at the top of the tank stand out. When I put the canopy in with the MH and PC's it may help the...
Nice tank by the way. Haha...is that one of those R/O water jugs you get at Wal-Mart. I use those to mix my water, I haven't yet bought an R/O unit myself...just head over to Wal-Mart once a week or so...good times.
I'm going to using 250W MH and 2x65W PC's...I have no idea how to actually build the canopy. Do you just set it on the top b/c my tank actually has a good 2-4 inches of acrylic on the top? Or do you put some sort of ridge around the eges that supports the rest of the canopy...I suck at this DIY...
I'm building a modest canopy to house my hetal halide and PC's for my 40 gallon tank. The tank is about 15" tall and I already have overheating problems with basic flourescents. I was wondering how far from the surface the MH and PC's should be and in general was looking for some pics of your...
I need to know by tonight if I should go with the 250W or 400W Metal Halide for my 15" 40 gallon tank. Also, how much should I expect to pay for 2x65W PC's retrofitted (ballast, bulbs, and reflector) and where a good place to find these is? Thanks.
My scratches are not too deep. They seem to be mostly from moving live rock, sand getting stuck under the mag float, etc. Is there some sort of measurement of sandpaper so I can know what to buy at home depot if I were to get some there?
