    Off-Topic Help please.....

Rye-- do what I did. I needed a dog that fit a specific set of circumstances, and I found ONE good use for AOL. If you have an AOL account or know someone what does, under the pet section there is a "Match me to my dog" feature. It asks 41 questions about space, compatibility, time, etc. in...

    hair algae problem

I went through a horrible hair algae situation in my reef tank, here's what I did: Removed the corals from the tank to others, and cut the light out COMPLETELY for a week. I restarted the lighting one hour a day for a week, then added an hour every week until I was back at 8. I did a 15% water...

Playing with my digital video camera

Thanks for the input guys, appreciate it. The reason they're not running from the camera, is that its about 10 feet away on a tripod, and zoomed in. If I get close with it all I have is a tank full of rock :) The fish you saw chasing the other away is a yellow tail chromis. This tank has mostly...

Playing with my digital video camera

I'm playing with my new Sony TRV730 trying to find the perfect mix between file size and quality. Here's a 20 second video taken from one of my tanks, let me know what you guys think of the quality vs. load time, color, etc. :) Its about 1.22MB file, which is pretty good. Thanks...

    A Compatibility question???

We have a maroon clown and a 3 stripe damsel in a rock curing tank -- if you tried to separate them they would bite you -- they're best buddies.

    OT Recent debates over SUVs

Viewing the responses here warms my consertative American heart. I'm glad that the public (us, that is) is not as naive as the think tanks try to make us out to be. In the whole view of this, we have to be careful not to lose sight of the bottom line here: people hate America because its not...

    Candy Cane

I had a hair algae problem with my blue caulerstra, but I picked it up from the base with tongs and held it under a powerhead for a few seconds to blow the hair off. The coral has never had the algae problem again, and is flourishing.

    Peppermint Shrimp??

Get a small group of them...they are much more active and tend to stay in view more when they are not alone. Also..they will pair off and provide wonderful coral food every few weeks.

iknow this off the subject anyone got any other intersting animals

So darn cool I can't believe it!!!!

Sure it does happen, and its very cool when it does! You'll often have mushrooms that appear out of "nowhere", and lots of other things as well. Kudos to you if your corals are coming back, it means you've created excellent conditions in the tank. After 6 months since the last addition of live...

what to feed while on vacation

Ok, you're in good shape if your evap is not a problem. I'm assuming you have a cover on the tank, which will help. Do NOT be tempted by the urge to overfeed them before you go, that will cause more problems than its worth. Just feed them normally before you leave, they'll be fine. Good luck...

what to feed while on vacation

I'm gonna help you out here, because I know what most of my good friends here are thinking. They are right, of course. Don't worry about feeding over a 5 day period, the fish will be fine. A larger concern is water evaporation over that period, which will raise the salinity in the tank. Oh yeah...

    Sea Urchin

We have two long spines, and a pincushion. They do eat coralline, but it grows back. They do occassionally knock things over, but only when I havent' secured them properly :) One way I found to lower their coralline destruction is to feed them. All three of them LOVE freeze dried krill. The long...
