    Please help! Ich!

Ok -- copper will work, but remember any rock or sand that you have in the tank the copper is added to is finished as LIVE sand or LIVE rock. Copper kills inverts (like the ich parasite) and can not be removed from the rock or sand, it leetches in. You can never add inverts to this tank, which...

Stupid question..but I had to ask

On my ecosystem filters, the refugium sections have small Jali PC lights, with regular white bulbs. I've never studied the spectrum analysis of these, I just figured they knew thats what I wanted in there -- so I'd go with one of the cheap Jali 13 or 18" pcs with a plain white bulb, about 15-20...

    Flower Pot

Here's mine...but I gotta tell you. I have an alveopora also, and it appears to be MUCH hardier. When anything comes near the flowerpot, it closes up like the end of the world is coming, and takes a good 3-4 hours to reopen. When a shrimp walks on the alveopora, it opens as the shrimp moves...

if i got anyone upset over my feelins i am sorry

Superb post. HT -- I believe things are going to change soon though, because for the first time reporters and news stations are acknowledging the fact that they are biased toward the left or the right. I recently cancelled my subscription to the New York Times, because for the first time in its...

    Will these two work together?

Good move -- I have to agree with the description of the trigger. Ours was a little angel for about 13 months, then went on a rampage like you wouldn't believe. He now has his OWN TANK, which is a little much, don't you think? Oh well, hopefully he'll be happy in there until we find a good home...

    Lionfish Handling

I use a plastic strainer (big one, for spaghetti) to move lions, and also use it for my long spined urchin. Works great.

Fishies for adoption on Long Island

Hi all I'm thinking of slowly changing one of my tanks from a semi-aggressive to a reef. There are two occupants that would have to move if I did so, I'm trying to see if there are good homes for them locally. For adoption: 18 mo. old Huma (Picasso) trigger, about 3 ", hardy, eats anything...

    Cleaner Shrimp

You can add one coral banded, he'll be okay. I would also suggest you consider adding a pair of blood shrimp, they get along with the cleaners, and are a flashy addition. You can also dump half a dozen peppermints in there, they love to be in groups. Cleaners also remove dead skin from fish...

    Thanksgiving question.

We went away for a week, and I set up an "IV" to top off the tank, but didn't worry about food. Know what happened? All my cyano algae was gone :) I now feed that tank a LOT less then I used to. Have a great Thanksgiving.

Ecosystem or traditional sump & skimmer?

I use the ecosystem filters on two tanks, and a standard Berlin type setup on two others (sump, protein skimmer). I have noticed that the ecosystem filtration method does do about what Sammy says, (about a natural "ecosystem"), but there are other elements to making it successful using the...

    fish question

The picture is a stars and stripes toby. A fiji puffer can be many things, but they're usually referring to the Fiji blue spotted toby. Here's some info from a website that sells them: The Blue Dot Puffer may also be called the Blue Dot Toby or Blue Spotted Sharp-nosed Puffer. Members of the...

fish or invert in a 1 gallon tank?

Now now kiddies....lets not be too harsh! We have 5 tanks, and you know what the prettiest one is? My wife's 3 gallon nano-reef. Yep, 3 gallons. In the 3 gallon tank she has about 5 lbs. of live rock, a 4 inch deep sand bed, a large feather duster, two glass shrimp, a dwarf zebra hermit crab, a...
