You can also consider getting a 40 gal breeder. It's actually longer and has more surface swimming area than a 55 so you can get away with putting fish rated for a 55 in a 40 breeder.

Just curious if anyone has ever owned one of these guys. I'm kinda looking for something new in my reef tank and any info on this guy would be appreciated.
He's not going to starve. Mine picks at the rocks all day and eats like a pig when feeding time comes. I feed my frozen mysis shrimp, frozen blood worms and the occasional flakes.
IMO, Maiden's Hair is more of an ornamental macro, it looks great in your tank. In terms of it helping your pod population, maybe if it was in a refugium. Otherwise, it's a great addtion to your tank and it will provide all the benefits of macro.
Putting LR in your tank now would probably not be a good idea. Introducing LR will cause your tank to cycle again, thus ammonia spikes that maybe deadly to your inhabitants. One way around this is to find a 'babysitter' for about 2-3 weeks until the LR has fully cycled your tank.

Black sand is more for looks. Be aware that it's a lot finer than other sands and it is harder for critters to thrive in it. I would compensate with a lot more LR because you're probably going to lack the benefits from a very established sand bed.
I think it's the luck of the draw. Sometimes you'll get a Hawk that will harm other inverts, sometimes you won't. It's like buying a lottery ticket and hoping you win, except the odds are much better :)
Flame/Electric Flame Scallops are relatively easy to care for assuming your water parameters are excellent and there are no critters that would pick at them. They need to be target fed some sort of plankton/micro food (too many products to choose from, I personally like DT's Live Plankton) once...
As soon as that starfish dies, you'll need to supply another one. I know of some '

' Harlequin owners who farm their Chocolate Chip Starfish simply as food. When the CC is about to die, they save its life and replace with a 'fresh' starfish to feed on. When the other starfish is...
Good list so far. Personally, I would avoid the cucumbers as they can either pollute/poison your tank. I would get more Nassarius Snails to provide the 'sand sifting'. Here's my suggestion list for you:
15 Scarlett Hermits
20 Nassarius Snails
20 Cerith Snails
10 Astrea Snails
2 Emerald Crabs...
Viper, I think you just got a 'bad bunch' of Zebras. EVERYONE I have spoken with has said their Zebras were almost all of the time docile, semi-aggressive in the worst case scenario. I can say for a fact that my Zebras get along great with themselves and other hermits. Now the Blue Leg...
Cut your light time to about 6-8 hours a day for now until you get your crew.
I'd say buy a nice cleaning crew from SWF. Here's what I would suggest for your 55:
25x Zebra Hermit Crab
1x Fighting Conch
25x Cerith Snails
20x Nassarius Snails
Maybe also consider picking up about 10x Astrea Snails...
