    mandarin dragonette problem!~

Fish, Mandarins shouldn't be kept in a 30 gal unless it's jammed pack with LR and has a refugium that is also packed with rocks. Regarding food, just put enough that your fishes would normally finish in about 3-4 minutes. You really can't spot feed a Mandarin. If you find that your Mandarin...

    mandarin dragonette problem!~

Mandarin need a lot of rockwork because their main diet consists of 'pods', which grow with live rock. If there is a lack of LR, then the pod population will not be as plentiful and therefore the Mandarin could starve. Now if the Mandarin you bought will accept other foods other than pods...

    Thoughts on a "Skilter"

Here's my opinion of the skilter. They suck and they're VERY noisy. Is it better than nothing? Of course it is. It may serve useful in case of emergencies. However, its performance is lacking and it's just too damn loud. Also, it produces a lot of micro bubbles in your tank.

    damsels.........keep or get rid of

Damsels are worthless IMO. Yes some of them are very colorful but their temperment is why I hate them so much. Plus, as they grow older they lose their color. I have such a distaste for Damsels that I wouldn't even cycle one with my tank.

    Tell me about chromis

Chromis are awesome when you have a big school of them. Otherwise, if they're outnumbered, they tend to swim near the surface of the water and totally boring.

    skimmer question

IMO, if you're going skimmerless, you should change 10% of water once a week. Even if you get an inexpensive skimmer, the benefits will be noticeable. Obviously if you had money (don't we all wish we had that), you could buy an Aqua C Remora (which is the best skimmer money can buy).

    skimmer question

Technically you don't have to have a protein for just inverts. However, I feel that every tank should have a skimmer. It is possible to keep good water quality with religious weekly water changes.

    One Ugly Tank

You may want to consider changing 10% of your water every 2 weeks. Are you using tap water or RO water? You may want to consider getting a Phosphate test kit. What do you have for a cleaner crew? Emerald Crabs could help with your algae. Also, pick up a Fighting Conch for every 30-40 gal...

    getting a new protein skimmer

Well, if it were me, I would buy an Aqua C Remora. Granted, it's not the quietest skimmer, it's the best HOB skimmer money can buy. If you're going to spend that kind of money, you should buy for performance.

Cleanup crew order coming soon...need help!

I would say save the Gorgonian for a later date. You may also want to consider getting about 10 Nassarius Snails. Don't worry about the Peppermint, sometimes they're nocturnal and sometimes they're not. I have 3 that are always out in the day.

    Protein Skimmer Running Time ???

Sometimes Remoras are louder when the tank setup is new. I know mine was pretty noisy until it had a chance to 'season in'. That actually lasted for a couple of months.
