Are these bad? are these normal....HELP

    Puffer and algae

How do you control algae problems with a puffer? I had snails taking care of the alage, but now they've been eaten. Is there way to control algae on the sand? My mexican turbos are doing fine on the glass. If not, my brother has another tank set up with a puffer in it. I belive a dog face. Mine...

    Loud Filter

We replaced the pump in our wet/dry, and now the box on the back of the tank is making an awful gurggeling noise- as if it doesn't have enough water. The tank is not a "reef ready" tank- we have the over flow box that you can manually adjust with the "u" shaped tubing siphoning the water to the...

    Silica Sand

I'm starting another tank and have access to sand through my work. (golf course) My superintendent says it's a silica based sand. If I rinse it well, do you think this would work? It's beautiful white sand and I would love to use to- it's free! I have to cycle the tank, so I figure anything...

    Octopus Specs. Question

I'm pretty far from NY-- Dallas, Texas! But thanks for actually posting a positive response! Like my first post said........ We have and CONTINUE to do much research on keeping an octopus. Between myself and my father, we have over 25 years of saltwater experience- including everything from...

    Octopus Specs. Question

We're not sure yet- depends on what tank I can get for the best price! We have an extra 30 some odd gallon sitting around- not sure the exact size. What would you suggest? I read on this site that they do well in a smaller tank- I don't know how accurrate that is though. I would think the tank...

    Octopus Specs. Question

After doing research, We've decided to set up my brother an octopus tank for his birthday. I know all the pros and cons, done a lot of reading the last few days on this site, we know about how good they are at escaping and that they need stimulation in their enviornment. I have two 55 Reefs...

    puffer question plz! sorry =)

What else do you feed him? Mine loves the frozen brine I put in for the other fish- as well as the occassion flake food. I have never seen him bother any of my inverts. Just curious, do they have problems with their beeks if they don't "chew" on things?

    Power Outage killed pump

I totally agree with you! Trust me- I have been taught a good lesson. Luckily for me, my dad was able to get it going again. I will for sure be looking into ways not to let this happen again!!! Thanks!

    Power Outage killed pump

We had a storm last night that kept turning the power on and off.... and I think fried my pump. Woke up to find my wet/dry full of water and my tank down about two inches. Everything that was attached to the power strip works great- except the pump. Tried to fix it this AM (managed to give...

What's wrong with my kenya tree coral?

Here's a picture of mine from a different post. The "mother" is one the second picture (go to my posting), front right. You can see the discoloration on the bottom trunk. THe whole thing did that for close to a week. Like I said, keep an eye on it...

What's wrong with my kenya tree coral?

My Kenya just did the same thing. All but one branch fell off. I gathered them up, threw some rubble and frags in a plastic cup, waited a few days and had baby kenyas! LFS guy said that's one way they propogate! The "mother" looks a little bare, but the one branch left is doing great! Just keep...

    Do we Wash our Hands?

Isn't it funny how we go out and buy RO/DI water for our fish, but then bath/drink our yucky old tap water? And we'll wash our hands off in it only to stick them into the "clean" water we're trying to prevent from getting contaminated!!! We are strange people!

    Anyone ever stung by coral?

Don't you have a hard time managing things in your tank with gloves on? I tried once (after my sting) and couldn't really arrange things the way I wanted. But I was using heavy duty thick plastic gloves...... I guess I'm a slow learner, still don't wear gloves!

    Anyone ever stung by coral?

My doctor is working on it, not too concerned. I was more curious if anyone else has ever had any reaction to a coral/fish sting. A guy at my LFS said his friend got sent to the hospital due to a Lion Fish Sting. Not too sure if I believe him or not!

    Anyone ever stung by coral?

It's like a really itchy rash. There's little bumps that have stuff in them that will pop and spread the rash. It's strange. When it happened, it felt like a bee sting of sorts- hurt a little but not too bad. Just be careful with your polyps!

    Anyone ever stung by coral?

Just curious if anyone has had the problem I'm having- 5 months ago I was stung by my button polyps. Went to the doctor, got some steriod creme and it cleared up for a while. But it keeps coming back- red, itchy with little bumps. My doc keeps trying different cremes to get it to go away. The...
