cycled for two weeks no spike

At t his point I certainly would not add a stinking dead shrimp. Its nort uncommon for a tank to cycle short and quick with good live rock and it is possible as yur lfs says to suport some life if its intrtoduced one or two at a time to start. The lfs here sells only cycled rock so you can...

Can a clown harass an anemone to death?

It is possible however for a clown to tear up just about anyhting it decides to take up residence in. I just had a perc clown tear up a huge yellow toadstoolleather, 27 or 28 shrooms, a big stand of pulsing xenia, some pipe organ, BTA and a few feather dusters.......He literally buffeted those...

    Another FOOD thread

I just htink Garlic is added to blad smelling prepared pelleted and flated foods and carried over to frozen just to add a smell or sense stimulant to induce feed. Its like the ploy used in the making of commercial fishing lures......why in heck would a fish be inclined to eat Ivory soap bars, or...

cycled for two weeks no spike

If yu have live rock i nthat tanak l there is a very good chance it cycled already. If the rock was purchased local or enen shipped and did not have much die off its alltogether possible to have it cycle and miss it. I certainly wuld not use a dead shrimp and create a stinking sloppy foul...

    glass, egg crate?

Egg crate is best if you just have to have a excape proof cover. Are y sure your even going to need it with a full hood? Nothing is bettter if you can especially if you have a full hood. Glass does nothing but add to salt creep problems.

    Coralife Super Skimmer Question?

Personally I would pitch that valve that goes on the pump as it was a stop gap fix when they had leaky red adjustment outflow valves. Its not needed at all with any new model css.

    mysis problem

On a few other sites the concept is that its fine to feed sw fish fw fish and critters and visa versa since fw nasties do not live in sw and visa versa. I have never paid attention to mysis one way or another and just buy frozen packs of it. The brands and packing varies at the lfs here, and...

    Maine Lobster Growing?

Hey I have one of those commercial holding tanks they use to keep lobsters in at fish markets. It is like new and works perfectly. IIRC without having to walk down to the barn and look at it there is a desired range on the temp knob of about 60-65 deg. I used it alrerady to keep koi fingerlings...

    High calcium

Water changes will usually reduce calcium levels. Are you sure your test kit is good? I run high alk and cal (at max or slightly above) levels and have not ever had problems not even when cal was at the point of precipitating out of suspension. It was extremely high for a few days but...

    Flow for Mushrooms

Once the shrooms pump up its easy to see if the flow is too much., They like some flow but not to the point they get knocked around. If they pump up and lay relatively flat on the rocks or sand base they are content and will do fine. Zoo's frogspawn, leathers, plates, greenstar polyps, xenia and...

    Coralife Super Skimmer Question?

I seriously doubt any of those needle wheel impellers are even close to being balanced. Just becarefull if you pull the front of the pump off and get to that needle wheel, as the shaft is ceramic and it does not take to dropping or bending or any other sideways stresses., before it becomes two...

    Beach sand Vs. Live sand

Because gravel is normally not going to provide any buffering of any type since its not calcium based. Then again if its not a deep sand bed no real buffering is going to be accomplished anyhow. Now contrary to what was posted I know of folks that do use crushed limestone or paver gravel which...

    Having Water tested at LFS

Who is to say the kits a lfs uses are any better than the kits I use. MOst lfs I have seen do water tests do it at a reduced rate since they like to test customers water so often, they reduce amounts of drops to amount of water and the resolution those tests provide are not as accurate as a full...

    Having Water tested at LFS

If they do not want to warranty a fish be it salt or fresh then I would look elsewhere. The two lfs here warranty fish for 2 weeks time......and do not require water samples and folks are not conning new free fish from them either....I can have bad water and stilldoctor my water up to mask a...
