I am currently cycling 20g nano tank with 22 lbs of LR and 30lbs of sand (aragamax and not live sand). I added a cocktail shrimp 3 days ago in order to jumpstart the cycling process. How long should I leave it in the tank before removing it? Ammonia levels are beginning to spike.

Should I then assume that my current 2 week old tank with the levels that are listed above is cycled, or should I add a cocktail shrimp, as many have recommended, to make sure the cycling process is complete? I just don't want to add some livestock and they all die off.

I just put my live rock into my newly set-up tank with sand. While the tank is cycling, should I start adding calcium to help the rock as well as prep for future corals, or should I wait until the tank is fully cycled?

Anyone have an answer? I know someone can tell me if I should use a sugar-fine sand (Carib Sea Aragamax) or a 1-1.5 mm size sand (Carib Sea special). There has to be a good answer out there.

I guess I am still looking for an answer. Is it best to use a sugar-fine sand or a larger particled sand (1.5 mm diameter) for a sand bed? I've heard the sugar-cane is the best but some say it can cause problems in causing consistant cloudiness even with the filters running.

I have 80 lbs of LR in the tank along with 2 clowns, a hippo tang, and naso tang. Can I still immediately add the play sand with the live sand on top right away?

Since the live sand will act as the curing agent, can I immediately place the play sand into my tank after rinsing it along with the live sand or do I need to cure the play sand with the live sand in a rubber maid?
