    Stocking a Tank Question

If you are going for a FOWLR then I would say your tank looks pretty good. I don't see to many issues with compatability. A word of caution though, Green Mandarins can be difficult to keep. They require a very mature tank, with lots of pods for it to munch on. I say this because Sixlines also...

    new tank. new problems..

+1 to using cycle "preventers". There are a few instances where I have used it in "emergency" situations, where it was life or death. Other then that, all my tanks cycled on their own with no help. Glad they are doing well. Nothing worse than worrying about the new fish you just put in the tank...

    new tank. new problems..

Ammonia is holding close to 0 or is 0? There is a difference here. 2 Weeks seems a little premature to start throwing things in there, my 29g was a month strong before I dabbled with adding live stock. And my 125g I setup in November is finally now at the point where I would be comfortable...

    Anemone Question

In this case if you "wanted" to keep both, it has been done (not recommended mind you, but done). The general rule of thumb though is you would want to run a good amount of carbon in your system. I had a Seabae and a RTBA in a 125 and they did fine....untill the seabea died (not enough light -...

    id please

Your tube looks to be a peanut worm, totally something you should leave in the tank. They are harmless, and great for consuming undesireables. Clicking can also be a sign of a dreaded mantis shrimp, so keep that in mind. When I say "keep that in mind", don't just go assuming you have one and...

    new saltwater tank

jrc, If you are getting a pro clear 75 wet/dry system, I would say you are starting off in the right direction (though depending on price would determine more if it was "worth" it...sometimes you can spend just a little more and be better off). Here a few tips might help out in the long run. 1...

Not an ID...only the coolest hitchhiker ever!!

For the time being he is isolated in a 10g tank untill: #1 I know he survives, and #2 I figure out which tank to put him in. I know he can't go in the reef, and due to his small size, I am afraid that there will be to much competition for food if I put him in my humu trigger/porcupine puffer...

Not an ID...only the coolest hitchhiker ever!!

I believe it to be a gulf toadfish (opsanus beta). I am by no means an expert, but it seems to be the closest I can get for now. To bad they eat everything, it certainly would be some nice color in the 125g .

Not an ID...only the coolest hitchhiker ever!!

So it's been awhile for me posting here since I have been kind of busy...getting a new house, moving, loosing most of my 125g reef in the move , and starting over. So the 125g reef is some what running again, after a few design changes to the sump. So I went out to get some LR from my LFS. Lucky...

    29 gal suggestions please

Ahhh the issues with non saltwater kits. Here are a few options. 1. Head to your LFS or contact Marineland and see if you can get a standard glass 29g hood. Probably not going to be to terribly expensive (compared to the costs of LR, ect. ) I contaced one because I shattered mine, and if memory...

    Skimmer problems...need help

Really light liquid sounds like it could be an adjustment issue . Maybe something happened and it got bumped. What kind of skimmer are you looking for HOB or in sump? That might make a difference on what ones you are looking at as well. I have an MSX 160 and LOVE it!!

    29 gal suggestions please

My first tank was a 29g actually. I have since moved on and got addicted and have a 125g reef, the 29g is my sea horse tank (which is moving to a 24g nano cube), I have a 40g that is going to be another tank (not sure what atm) and I am currently working on building a multiple tank octopus lair...

    125g Tank Panorama

Thanks for the kind comments . I want to get some more LR, to fill up the back and hide a bit of the blue (it will also help as you can see with the light shining through on the left ). Have to be more selective with rock for a 125, since they are narrower, shallower, and longer, instead of...

    125g Tank Panorama

So I was messing with Photoshop and Lightroom, and decided to do a panoramic pic of my tank. Well here is the final result: http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...r_Panorama.jpg I didn't post in in here because of the size. Figured the link would work better . Still gonna be adding more LR and...

    Question for the zoa experts

Keep in mind to that they are used to MH lighting and not T5. It might take longer to keep them open. Personally if it were me I would find a good spot for them and leave them alone. The more you move them the more they will close up. I posted this on another thread, but it's a good example. "I...

    Help with Green Zoos

I couldn't but to notice it appears a sally lightfoot cruising by. When crabs and snails cruise over the tops of these colonies they will close up as well. So keep that in mind as things in your tank might be curious and are just checkin things out. This can cause them to become irritated and...

    Some questions....

My best advice right now is slow down. I understand how exciting and wonderful this all is, but it requires planning and careful stock choices. Are you going to be building a Reef tank with corals and shrimp and stuff? If so that is going to impact your fish choices a bunch. If you are going...

Looking for help from the SPS gurus

The reason they are so high up is because they came from a MH system, were the light was only about 1.5' away from the corals. I know that the T5 that I am using right now is probably not putting out near as much light as that MH system was. They have already been dipped before placing them in...

Looking for help from the SPS gurus

So as some of you may/may not know my wife got me (well mostly for her) 2 acro colonies (complete with crabs). As I have not delved into SPS, I really want to make sure I am doing things right. Currently I am running 4x39 T5's individually reflected. Now I know they are for the most part a very...
