because soft corals use calcium too- some more than others, leather for example use a fair amount of calcium- but the reason why i ask is because you can add too much calcium and have negative effects on corals
Just thought id show you a cool pic of the largest known ostracod, Gigantocypris, it has been found to an inch in diameter, which, as you know, if massive. Sometime call seed shrimp as a common name
Bang Guy-
Do ostracods contain more protein that the other pods? i was just wondering what make them better fare and how you know that. Was there a study done of the nutritional breakdown of pods. That would be cool
also- are they zoanthids or palythoas? Palythoa polyps contain palytoxin which i have read to be one of the most toxic natural poisons around, i have never died from it (obviously) but i have heard about its nasty effects, including death- so use caution
even thought not typical, some shrimp will eat soft corals- especially if they are underfed- it sounds like they are being eaten to me and the only thing i can think of that would eat both zoanthids and mushrooms would be the shrimp. Have you noticed any other larger predatory worms at night? or...
the pump is fine. but they often stop sweeping after you get them- i have been lucky and i have had one for 2 years and if functions perfectly and i have only cleaned it 4 or 5 times
if you dont feed the shrimp on a semi regular basis i have seen cleaners eat zoanthids- i had one that ate about 5 polyps but after that lost its taste for them- i doubt that is it but i just thought id share. Do they just dissepear overnight from a healthy colony? I have heard of fire shrimp...
im not sure- i found that pic on this site from an older thread- but as far as aragalive- im not sure- there are a lot of sands that look like that that are sold dry
