    Close loop sump without drilling?

I was going to say the same thing as Moby, you can do a closed loop without drilling or using a HOB overflow, but you cannot use a sump.

why in the hell is my water air rateing

how big of a return pump are you using? I have found that most people are trying to push too much flow through their sumps, causing too much turbulance and bubbles in the sump. try turning the flow down and see what happens.

    Need Behavior Help with Lovebird!

no problem, :joy: Clipping wings is somewhat of a delima, one of the things I have been reading about is not clipping the wings to early on a weanling, that a parrot needs to learn to fly for a few month before any clipping is done, this helps the bird with confidence and balance. I have done...

    Need Behavior Help with Lovebird!

What specifically is the problem and what are you looking for it to become? As someone stated, unles a lovebird is handled frequently from hatching, it will usually not become a sweet little bird. There are some things you can do though. 1. DO NOT GIVE IT A MIRROR, this will make it more...

    Another Drilling question

I believe All Glass and maybe perfecto temper all the glass on a 55, but just started doing it in the last year or two so if it is pretty old you are probably fine, but if you can find a make and a year when it was Manufactured you should be able to call the company and find out if the sides are...

    No cycle?

How long is your vacation? Biggest concern would be evaporation which causes the salinity to rise in the tank, if it gets to high it can kill inverts and fish. I would leave the lights off while you are gone that would help with the evaporation part. If you don't have someone to look in on the...

    No cycle?

I think you could put a couple of fish in, it is actually better for the biological filtration of the tank to sustain at least a couple of fish. You would probably need someone to come by and check the tank while you are on vacation though.

    Microbubbles?

more than likely it is coming from your Fluval, take it apart and put it back together, be sure everything is sealed and there are no places where air can get sucked into the unit.

    No cycle?

To answer your question, yes, you can skip the cycle if you have enough cured LR and LS, if you answer the above question it would be easier to know if you have enough for your tank.

    Water Changes during cycling

Water changes are fine during the cycle, since you put all new sand in the tank it would be a good idea for you to feed your tank like you had several fish in it, I would feed it every day, this will boost your biological filtration so that it can handle it when you put your fish back in the...

Ok I am somewhat a nooB! Couple quick questions and comments.

lots of very large water changes if you cannot find homes for your fish. I would start out with a 50% change, then do 25% every day if you have to. Two different types of butterfly's in a 55 gallon tank is a bad idea, they will probably never get along. They are also hit an miss with a reef...

    Skimmer for sale

This is a skimmer made by Acrylic City. It is rated for up to a 125 but could probably be used on a 180 that was lightly stocked. It is an in-sump skimmer with a Mag 5 pump, it works very well. I am selling it because I was running it on a 210 and need a bigger skimmer, but it did a pretty...

Space Beetles and the "American Inventor"

yeah they were, hissing cockroaches from Madagascar, most pet stores carry them, as unusual pets, we used to have them at the zoo I worked at in the Education Dept. They really grossed me out. I cannot imagine anyone keeping them as pets.

newbie just tested high in nitrates- what to do ?

The .1 of nitrites and the high nitrates sort of shows an unblance in your biological filtration. How long has your tank been set up, how much Live rock do you have? A water change might be a good idea, like 25%. High nitrates won't kill fish (unless really really high), but if they can kill...
