most people are talking about waiting at least 24hrs to "age" the saltwater before you do a water change.

    advice needed ...

I totally agree with what wax said: no UG filter, Remora Pro, if you really want anemones (there are alternatives that clowns will host in) then you need to look at MH lighting. You will also want some powerheads in the tank to move water for lots of circulation.

    Using bleach on filter???

yes, filter bags and things like that are best washed in a mild bleach solution, then let dry completely, hard plastic parts of filtration I prefer to clean with vinegar if you need to get the calcium build up off of them. As long as you rinse the bleach out completely and let it dry completely...

    Using bleach on filter???

They are correct that the chlorine in bleach evaporates, but I still don't use it on my equipment, I use vinegar, it does a much better job and is perfectly safe. Bleach is really harsh on plastic also.

Possible copper use in used tank (re-sealing)

I acquired a used tank, that seems in pretty good condition, the side silicone was a bit rough so I went ahead and removed it and re-siliconed it. My question is about the bottom, the silicone seems to be tinted blue, now at first I thought it was just the silicone, now I am wondering if...

new tank started, some basic questions please...

I would highly suggest you invest in some good quality test kits for your tank, those test strips are horribly inaccurate as well as a lot of the cheaper reagent test kits. For a first time FOWLR tank, I suggest you get either Salifert test (my favorite) or Sea Test and Fast Test (cheaper and...

    Carbon filters for big tanks.

I really like the phosban reactors for carbon, on any size tank, but they really do a good job for a bigger tank.

HELP HELP HELP - tank almost 90 degrees

I would just turn the heater off and let it slowly come back down, take off any lids, but don't do anything drastic, it is the swings that kill not neccesarily the temp. You want it to drop slowly not quickly. Do you have corals or just fish?

Where to buy Sea Hare in Kansas City?

Well it was several years ago, it was okay, the owner is a bit Grumpy to employees and to his customers, I haven't been in the store in ages, but I was not impressed with either the selection or the prices the last time I was there. I pretty much just get stuff at Fish World (usually when I...

Where to buy Sea Hare in Kansas City?

Were you talking about Mission Pet Mart? (on Johnson Drive), I worked there for a while when I was in college. I was going to say if you find one online and wanted to split the shipping cost with someone you could see if anyone in the area wanted to go in on an order with you. There is a...

Where to buy Sea Hare in Kansas City?

You would probably have the best luck contacting a store called Fish World, it is in Blue Springs, talk to Jeff (one of the owners) he is really good about special ordering things and is very knowlegeable about saltwater, his prices are really good, and he has a nice store but doesn't keep a ton...

I want a trigger BAD for my Reef...I need views please

I have Blue Throats in two of the reef tanks I maintain and they are model citizens, they don't mess with anything. One of my clients just put a Pinktail in his reef so we shall see if that fish leaves the snails and shrimps alone.

    320 acrylic

I would call some fish stores see if there is someone in your area that works with acrylic, more than likely they can patch the area that the crack is in. Your explanation is a bit vauge, are you saying there is a crack in the top support of your aquarium?

    Last Resort...

Actually you "can" do hypo on a display tank, but you will have to remove all inverts from the tank, and you will more than likely kill most of the small beneficial creatures in your LR and sand. But it would still be preferable to using copper in a tank with LR and inverts. I have done it...

    Metal Halide Heat

You will most likely need fans. Metal halides can raise the temp in your tank anywhere from 2-5 degrees just depends on the tank. But even a 2 degree shift in temp from lights on to off is not good. Just get the fans, you will will also notice a increase in evaporation, but that is a good thing IMO.
