    Thinking about a phosban reactor

I think the media is good for 3 months or so. I used it for awhile, but then the cyano went away, so I took it offline.

    I'm Cycling a 150 Gallon Tank Help I'm new

Actually they say that an ammonia level above 1.0 is too high because it will kill off any life that is on the live rock, and you get some very beneficial hitchhikers on the LR, brittle stars, worms, etc. So if you test your ammonia and it gets to 1.5 or 2, Id do a 20% water change or so to keep...

    24 gallon reef

You cant use the watt per gallon for determining strength. BTA need strong lighting, such as metal halide or t-5 with individual reflectors. Id stick with the low-medium light coral and shrimp.

    COral lighting

2x250w will be all the light you need. As to the RO water, it should be better than the walmart water

    SPS and Lighting Question

Agreed. With a 24" Deep tank and 250w MH you should be fine with sps anywhere. Something tells me that par may be a bit low with the XM15k compared to other bulbs, but I dont know specifically. Ive heard amazing things about 250w phoenix 14ks and I use the 150w versions and theyre great...

    Id Plz...

Yeah wow the color has really turned around! I think the fans could possibly disturb the polyps down near the base and could create a little shading. But other than that they wont bother them.

    driving me crazy...

stirring the sand is not that bad if its a shallow sand bed and not deep. if you have good flow, maybe you need to redirect it. If you need more flow, get some. but Id wait it out at first and see if time will help. Its just part of having a new tank.

    LIVE ROCK HELP - Asterinia?

asterina stars do seem to bother zoos but as far as I can tell dont eat them. I do see them crawl over the zoos and the zoos close up, but nothing else happens that I can tell. If you get too many, just start taking them out and tossing them.

    High Alk help

If it only changed 1 dKh with 2 33%+ water changes, Id bring it to your LFS to have them test it just to rule out a bad test kit. Whats the alk test of your salt water? But Id dose calc and not alk during this time. YOu dont want the calc to drop too low. Also, theres worse things then high...

    thinking of starting a reef

The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert Fenner is the book everyone recommends. Also, look at the top stickied threads in the New Hobbiest section. That will have many good articles as well. I would replace the CC if I were you. Also, more LR is liekly needed. Start with mushrooms and...

    sump or wet/dry?

use the search function of this website and you will find lots of articles and designs for refugiums. I have one and would not set up my filtration system any other way. Skimmer, heater, return pump, phosban reactor, etc. all can fit in it. The main actor in a fuge is the macroalgae, usually...
