Hey Thav...I checked out South Shore Tropicals last night, not bad! They had good prices, but not that much stock. What interested me were the seahorses, I've never seen an LFS with so many, and for so little (8 bucks a pop). Thanks for the suggestion.

    Your Favorite Tang?

Our favorite is our purple tang. We got him FREE from a LFS because he had a terrible case of HLLE and they felt he was going to die within the week anyway. I told them I could cure it...they scoffed but gave me the fish. Long story short, 6 months later, he's healthy as a horse, and the HLLE is...

    Percula Clowns Dumb?

to add to what you've heard already, perculas will leave something alone for a long time, then all of a sudden decide their life cannot continue without living in something. They may someday decide to live in a coral or an anemone, and after they do you'll be hard pressed to get them to desert...

    blue hippo tank

He may be picking at algae or worms that are on/in the coral. Keep an eye on him and see if the behaviour continues, my guess is that it won't. What kind of coral?

    Making my tank look real

You stumbled upon the best way -- look at photos of other tanks and try and duplicate it. You're probably not going to be happy with that much rock tho...grab some more!

    Grrrr to catch a fish

Ah, but alas poor Yorkic, there is a valuable lesson herein to be learned. To those newbies who are anxious to bring life into the tank that barely has the salt mix settled, perhaps they will think twice before adding 55 blue devil damsels to the water. I've been through the capture routine...

    Someone identify these clams please...

I'll check out the scientific name provided, thanks. Yes, they DO burrow in the sand. It occurred to us they may have come with the live sand we added, not with the live rock.

Its a common thing to think its strange for these animals to be shipped, but you get over it real quick! I have ordered from here, and 3 other sites as well. If you think about it, the fish have been through it before, they are shipped from distributers to wholesalers to stores in boxes before...

    New York

well...I'd have to recommend a bunch of them, and for different reasons. There is Fishtown USA in Flushing, which has GREAT stock, but lousy prices. There is Parrots of the World in Rockville Centre with awesome stock, and HORRIBLE prices. There is Total Aquariums in Lynbrook with good stock and...

    Red Ball Sponge

What amazed me about the giant "bubble sponge" is when he trained it to do the counters in the kitchen. Amazing!

    Strontium

Rather then mess with individual supplements, I add Ecosystem's Reef Solution to the tank once a day. It adds strontium, molebdenum, and lots of other trace elements in the right amount. The corraline growth in this tank is incredible.

    Someone identify these clams please...

These little guys appeared just the other day, about a dozen of them. The last live rock that was added was over 3 months ago, strange. They're very small, and vary in color. What is unusual about them is that they poke out of their shells and eat?? off the substrate. Very strange. I have a...

    Could this be?

Here's what you do to make sure they're happy. --NOTHING-- Think about it, if they came out of the rock and look good, then the tank is obviously supporting them well, right? Dont' change a thing, it sounds like they're happy where and how they are.

I am setting up another tank and came across a possibly big problem!!

HNF2K - be very careful with the stores in our area. Let me know what you want to buy, I'll steer you towards which stores to avoid/patronize. You're better off buying MOST of your stuff online. Dave@jfktower.com
