    Algae?

Plants and algae are important factors in the biological filtration of a sw tank because they will reduce nuisance algaes (by competing with them) help with lowering nitrates. The only problem is that some plants can grow out of control and you will have to begin trimming them after a...

    Green Open Brain

Need good lighting, low-medium water movement and good calcium levels. Aren't the best shippers because they can be damaged and difficult to keep alive after arrival. Will accept brine shrimp and silverslides(larger brains). I had one die because of an injury due to shipping but two others...

    funny looking flower pot

These corals are extremely difficult to keep alive for more than a few months. Unfortunatley I bought one of these for $12 when I first started out but it died after my sebae clown used it as a host a few weeks ago. A lfs had them for sale and recommended them. These are better off left in...

    Lighting for 29Gal Reef

After weeks of research I went with vho's but pc's are just as good and an mh combo would be the best choice but heating is a factor that you will have to consider. During the summer months my tank temps reach 86-87 even with a cooling fan and a partly air conditioned room. That is the main...

    # of fish/gal?

I believe that the bio-load varies with each individual tank and system. The inch per gallon rule was created to give a beginner or novice an guideline to owning a sw fish tank but i think it all depends on the system. For instance a 55 gallon tank with a 10 gallon refugium, skimmer, wet dry...

My next and last fish. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I was thinking of getting a flame angel or a blue spotted jawfish(which are currently onsale). Does anyone have other suggestions or comments? Would a flame angel be harrassed by my damsel and sebae clownfish.

    Centipedes?

The only other creature that I know of fitting your description is a mantis shrimp. Maybe someone else has another guess.

    Royal gramma; NEST?

I thought mine was pretty weird after he made my welsyphilia brain his home. My sebae clown sleeps on the brain and the royal gramma under it.

    Centipedes?

I think you just might be talking about bristle worms. There are many different species among them with the majority being beneficial to the tank.

Anyone with a 30g or close LOOK!

All my specs are in my singature. Though I am adding another 5lbs of lr, 5lbs of ls and a blue spotted jawfish.

What would you do with a 30 gal tank?

I already did it. Take a look at my signature. With enough patience, dedication and reading you'll be able to build yourself a nice looking reef tank. If you have space for a larger one that would even be better. Oh, I forgot to mention the deep pocket. sw reef tanks will definitely run...

Coloration of my Yellow Scroll coral

I have had one for over 3 months now and in the beginning had to move it a few times until it was happier. In the beginning it was bright yellow but also began turning brown. Moved it mid-way with medium water flow and has done well for the last 2 months. It had regained it's yellow color. I...

    reef tank in a 29g

I've had great results from my 29 gallon this time around. My attempt a few years ago was a failure. From my experience it very much depends on the type of water you use for top-offs/changes, water movement and the amounts of ls and lr. As far as lighting it depends on what you want. If you...

    Mandarin

I've had my mandarin for over 3 months in my 29 gallon. While my pod population has gone down(60 lbs lr) he has been eating frozen brine. Try to add live brine to the tank and when feeding the tank directing frozen brine to the area it populates. If you're lucky he might start eating it. I...

    Beautiful Krusk! Thanks for sharing.

    What are they?

How much lr do you have in the 55gal. In my 29 gallon I have over 60lbs and my mandarin is tearing up the pod population. You will need a hellova lot of lr to keep 2 of them. I'm lucky because the one I own also eats frozen brine(rare).

    Problem w/Bubble Coral

The only thing I've heard that might help your situation is a coral dip they have on the market. I never heard of anyone using it on their bubble corals but have heard it used on brains. I believe it's some kind of iodine mixture that helps get rid of any unwanted parasites or with infections...

    Seahorses & Mandrians

I think you'll be fine with seahorses and a mandarin or even a pipefish. They won't harm the seahorses. I've heard you can even put a couple of corals in the tank(just make sure they don't sting or can hurt other inhabitants).

    Sponge

I'm not sure but from your description that you have a filter feeding worm(?) instead of a sponge. I have the same thing which came on my lr. It will sometimes chang size and close its' openings after feeding times.

    Clean Up Crew TOO MANY???

In my opinion that would be an overkill. 25-35 would sound better. I'm not sure how the turbo snails would do against the hermits. I had some bumble bee snails and my hermits went on a killing rampage and wiped them out. I have 3 mexican trochus snails that are too large for the hermits and...
