was told to ask in here

I have heard emerald crabs will mow down bubble algea as well. I had some green bubble algea on a new piece of LR and it just disappeared after about a week. Im pretty sure my crab took care of it, but I never witnessed it in person.

green sea grass or fernlike stuff

A lmb would probably help, they mow down just about anything. If you do get one make sure he doesn't starve with lack of thing to eat later down the line. Id introduce some nori sheets after a week or so. Mine is a monster he cleaned about 60lbs of LR in about 3 weeks.

    Shaving Brush Requirements

I got a shaving brush recently and its been doing fine. I dont really have any fish that would eat it tho. About a week 2 new sprouts popped up about 4 inches to both sides of the original one. I guess they are like aspen groves or something, they seem to share the same root system.

    tiny hermy is monster

You feed each of your hermit crabs by hand? lol, and I thought I was obsessed. :hilarious Seriously tho, I have never had a problem with blue legs. They clean all around coral and sift sand for the most part. Id say they are about 80-90% herbivores, I dont feed them at all. My peppermint shrimp...

Is this lighting ok for a std 55 gal?

You may want a little more than that. A 2x96w fixture would be the minimum for keeping soft corals. The CSL and Current USA/Orbit lights are pretty good. Im not a fan of the aqualights. Note: Make sure you get true 03 actinic bulbs no matter the fixture. The blue blubs that are shipped with the...

    tiny hermy is monster

Im curious, kind of blue legs do you have (pic?)? There are many different varieties of hermit crabs. The kind of I have have solid blue legs, with darker spotted claws. And they are not agressive at all. Maybe yours did get the taste of blood? Maybe your lfs put them in a tank with nothing but...

    Anemone

Squid is good. I feed mine; silversides, krill, squid, fresh seafood (shrimp, clams), and frozen brine. zooplankton is more of fish food, I think. :notsure: What you may be thinking of is zooxanthellae, basically thats a microalgae that grows inside anemones. Its essential to their health. This...

    tiny hermy is monster

As hermit crabs grow they need larger shells, its possible that your guy was just running out of room in his shell. Always keep a few extra shells for your blue legs and they wont harm a thing. I have about 20 blue legs in my 50g and other than them fighting each other for shells they are harmless.

    ID needed

Go for it! :) I dont think they need much light, so just keep emm well fed. If you notice them getting lighter in color try placing them higher in your tank. A variety of meaty foods once or twice a week should be sufficent.

    Bakpak 2R?

I have a remora with an MJ1200, if I agressively skim I can pull about 2 cups of some stinky stuff per day. So with confidence I can say that the remora's are great. But it probably is overkill on the smaller setups.. If you keep up the maintenance on a bakpak you should have no problems. Btw...

    Unknown Crab ID

Or you could just try keeping him fed, maybe the poor guy was just hungry. :notsure: I do suggest keeping him in QT until you can properly id him.

Its kind of understood that freezing an animal is the most humane way to kill it... Whatever you do dont flush it, thats just not cool at all. I vote for the large hammer or freezing method. Call your lfs first tho, you never know what they will take back. ::starts playing taps::

Nudibranch, Jumping fish, Overflows - A safty tip

ditto, great idea thomas. I hate my remora overflow box! no fatalities yet but I could see the same thing happening to my lmb (he has jumped into the overflow a few times already, he is just too big to get sucked up) or my new neon gobie.
