    Reef Tank lights

Well the quote is right, but he's a little carried away. If you have a standard sized tank (not too tall) then the watts per gallon rule of thumb is pretty good. In order to do it correctly, you would need a meter than measures lux, I think it's lux, if not lux, it's some measurement of light...

You haven't been sniffin' that stuff have you Tony??? lol Just kidding, I will someday add it to my tank, but that 36" paddle scares the hell out of me.

I do it also. Interesting point about the pH. Anyone tested to confirm?

Cool. For the record, what's the ppm of saturated lime water?

    Cleaner Shrimp....

Agree with the 5 gallon bucket. What's may happening is with that small of a container, you may not be putting enough of the original bag water. Even though your drip seems slow, in that small of a container with less bag water it's bumping everything exponentially. You would have to really...

    barber brush

I have about 4.3 watts per gallon and they only lived about two months. They need stronger lighting, but I'm not sure how much.

    tds meter

So it's basically a TDS meter with a high end scale? Is it a pocket meter? If it's like the Ph pinpoint then it's mounted in the tank and I can't see how you would be able to check your RO without a lot of work.

Looks like it will be a while for me then. Yours certainly fits my profile. Maybe I can say "Totally Broke." Just kidding... Thanks!

What's up Tony? So how did you get "Ozone User" under your screen name instead of the posting related fish name? Can you change it to whatever you want when you have that many posts?

    raising calcium?

Just an FYI on the Instant Ocean salt. Before I had a magnesium test kit I called the manufacture of this product since I use it and was curious about the levels they use. They stated if I used it a full strength, then it would have the same level as NSW. Well I have a test kit now and I...

Tony's right. Salt will greatly impact the TDS reads. I don't believe they make such an animal.

    dKH, PH, and Calcium

In general, slower is always better, but I'm not sure if in this case it matters. Maybe Bang can help.

    dKH, PH, and Calcium

IMO your dkh is low. If you brought it up to 9 or 10, it would automatically lower your calcium. Keep an eye on the Ph during this process though, as all three are linked. You may want to get a test kit that can test for borate alk, carbonate alk, and total alk. Dkh doesn't always tell the...

    Starting reef aquqrium

Well hopefully there is one to many zeros in the sp reading. At 1.023 it's not too far off with temp. compensation. Might want to bump it up to 1.024, but definitely get rid of the swing you posted. Don't let the salinity drop by more than .001 in a 24 hour period. I'm with Nas19320 on not...

    raising calcium?

The addition of kalkwasser can also deplete your magnesium levels. By the way, if you didn't understand what Effloresce meant about the magnesium, if it's not at proper levels, then you won't be able to increase your calcium levels.

    Pressurized Kalk Drip

You're right, I used the wrong terminology. It won't break siphon, but it will stop forcing the fluid once the water level drops just below the dip tube. I have the tube located about a half an inch above the bottom of the container. I'm not sure how I could force the fluid into the container...
