    alge help please

How much water do you change with your water changes? If you do your salinity mix and bring it to 1.024-.026 and bring the tank salinity up slowly, your Ph should come up with it. There is Ph buffers in most salt mixes and if you do enough water changes, you shouldn't have to use any Ph...

How Often Do you Do Water Changes???

I also suggest, what ever your plan on water changes is. every week, every 2 weeks etc. do it regularly. The tank becomes used to it and water quality and reef quality depends on it.

How Often Do you Do Water Changes???

I have a 72g Bow, and I do 5gals every week or so. Actually try to do 25 g a month. I rarely test anything other than Ph and Phosphate. Water changes are the best tests!

Fish traps, anyone ever use one?

I used the trap to catch a damsel that had taken over. He was smart, and, of course, I had to bait the trap, but after catching some snails and some other fish, he went in and he was toilet food. The directions for the trap is to put it where he hangs out most of the time. You'll get him...

How to get rid of bubble algae

I got rid of some of mine during a water change. I used the "Python" and took off the large adapter and used just the hose and put it right over the bubble and while the water was being syphoned, I scraped off the bubble. It seemed to work well. Maybe that'll help.

Please Talk me into a tank

You asked about LR. Start with 1Lb per gallon and go from there. Just remember, get your LR set up before you put in inhabitants. everytime you put in LR, the tank CAN start another CYCLE. After it's set, don't add more rock. the new rock may have parasites on it and crash the tank.

Please Talk me into a tank

As others have said so far, you are on the right track by asking before you start. I have been doing this for 5 years now and have had NO success until 6 months ago.. MY problem was my water. Yup, the tap water had too many hard metals in it and it was killing my fish. My suggestion to you...

    i'm so depressed!

Most definately. Got to get those numbers down. That red slime loves nitrates. It will choke everything.

    i'm so depressed!

First, stop adding calcium. Work on one problem at a time. Add some power heads to circulate the tank. That will help keep down the brown algae (sounds like red slime to me) and, do a water change. Don't over feed your tank. How stocked is it? Don't add any fish until you get your...

    Instant Invert Death

I did the first WC today. Was about 30 Gals. The RO is starting to refil as we speak. Question though, seems the heater I bought POPPED and the water smelled burned. I dumped it and started over again. Waste of 15 gals but better than dead fish. Think I should do anything else? Thanks

    RO/DI operation questions

I also read somewhere that the clean water will be low on Ph. Will I need to add buffer to the water B4 I put it in the tank? Or, will I need to add anything oter than salt, B4 putting it in the tank?

    RO/DI operation questions

I played with it a bit more and found a flow valve. They call it a flush valve, but if it's open, the water drips out, if it's closed, I get a 4-1 ratio, like I should. Thanks for the advice. :jumping:

    RO/DI operation questions

The pump is for low water pressure, but it's supposed to save water. Instead of being 1-3 it's 1-2. 1 good gallon to 2 bad. I think the pump might be too much though. The waste water comes flying out and the good water drip drip drip. fast drip, but think it's more than it should be. My...

    RO/DI operation questions

OK, I just hooked up my NEW RO/DI unit from Coralife. Pure-flo II with the pump, to be exact. Is it normal for waste water to flow pretty freely and the PURIFIED water to trickle out? I got a 50Gpd filter. There isn't any operation information in the box other than set-up information. Any...

    Storm Protection?!?!

Honda makea a very nice small quiet generator. The're pricy but worth it. If you don't plan on running your house on it, It should be enough to power your entire tank and maybe a few house lights. It's worth the investment to save your tank and fish.

    Instant Invert Death

Well, it seems as if you folks may be right on track. When I first set-up the tank, Iw as in a different town with different water supply. I have had nothing but problems since I moved to his location. Also, thats exactly what happened to my snails. They would fall off anything they ere on...
