ok, sorry but you guys are confusing me! (lighting)

1000$ is Cheap insurance on a reef tank of over 100 gallons. You think how much money you have in sand rock and fish( don't even add corals) and tell me that a generator and chiller really seems like that much. And to your question, no I do not have a chiller. I also do not have 3 metal...

    am I loco?

The only thing that makes live rock live is the bacteria poulation. The corraline is just a bonus. Given time any rock will become live so if you find something you like I think you are onto something. Rich

    Please identify coral

Other side looks dead to me. Was it out at LFS? if so maybe just give it time or maybe it is too close to coral in background. Rich

ok, sorry but you guys are confusing me! (lighting)

Ok my turn. If you keep your house extremely cold to counteract temp discharge from lights and pumps then your power bill will go up more than what the chiller would cost(including running it). Now someone who lives Wyoming maybe can get away with using the AC but down here in Sunny...

    New home built refugium

People talk about different temps all the time. Most I have seen in books recommend 78 +/- . Alot on here think that most reefs in the wild go 80-84 so they try to stay around there. As far as his tank being low, if I knew I could get my tank to grow as well as his by spending 500$ on a chiller...

    I saw a shark!

I have always had a love for sharks but point in hand if you are in there house you better play by their rules. Fact of the matter is that the ocean is the one place the human is not on top of the food chain. That said many people interact with them all the time and never even have the sharks...

Great people here, now my first ?

I would say the puffer is out if you value your shrimp. I would also say you already have quite a few fish in there so you are going to be pushing your bio load especially without the DSB to help with nitrate filtration. Depending on what else you have for filtration in the tank you are also...

    She's back!

3 days? I had a wrasse dissapear for almost 4 weeks. I was trying to let tank go fallow so I pulled everything out of tank removed all fish and gave them away. I thought he was dead though I did sift through the sand looking for him anyway. Anyway I had like 3 or 4 days left to have been fallow...

    lighting question

Why not build a hood and go with a 2 VHO setup. You can get an icecap 430 and 2 bulbs for a very reasonable price and it would be awesome lighting on a fowlr. If you decide to go reef later you already have you ballast just change the bulbs to both actinic and add the hallides or pick up...

What to do w/ fish during conversion??

I don' think you have to worry about using chlorine as much as you think.make up a solution of about 5 parts water 1 part bleach and scrub it out if you think it really needs it. As soon as you are done scrubbing it rinse it out 2 or 3 times and leave it out in the sun. The chlorine that is...

I saw an anemone diving out of Destin one day that I think would have almost filled my 55. I have seen several different species of anemone also though not sure which ones. As far as coral I have some gargonians in my tank that are wild. They do very well, just have to make sure what you take...

I caught this fish diving on a reef in Fort Lauderdale. He has been in my 55 for a month and has been a model citizen. Just starting to wonder what he is. I was thinkig some type of Goby at first but now I am leaning more toward some type of sand perch. Any ideas? Rich

    White Bubble Coral?

I have seen a bunch of nice looking white ones around here. I want to get one but I personally was looking for one with a little more green look to it. I think htey just come in different colors and if that one looks good it should be ok. Rich

    Media before skimmer

If the tank is in bad shape and you are willing to change the carbon out on a regular basis to get things back in order I would say put it in front of the skimmer then just don't let it get clogged up. Rich
