    caulerpa question

    Plan on it.

    Help....many questions.

I agree with BangGuy. Reef inhabitants are very succeptible to poor water quality and changing water conditions. A nano tank is more prone to rapid swings in ph, salinity changes, temp changes, etc., then a larger tank. Unless you are confident in your abilities due to research and/or...

    caulerpa question

Thanks for the replies. I have been checking the caulerpa daily for anything looking different(other then more of it) and haven't noticed any bleaching. But now I know what to look for. My nitrate level went up to 20(was usually less then 10). That is why I added a refugium. I can't get over how...

    caulerpa question

I added a refugium about a month or so ago and the grape, and razor are growing like crazy.:) I run the lights 24/7. I have 2 questions. Why don't you want caulerpa to go sexual and how can you tell if it is. I haven't read anything on it and figured I would ask here.

    Brown Crap

From the pic, it appaers that you have quite a bit of hair algae on the lr and glass. Possibly over feeding? Do you have a protein skimmer to remove organics in the water. Also what is your nitrate readings.

    Glass Anemones

I had quite a few smaller aptasia and 2 larger ones in my tank. I took a syringe without a needle and sqirted them with boiling RO water. I had to move fast to prevent the water in the syringe from cooling down in the tank, but it did a number on the aptasia. they instantly turned grey and...

    Caulerpa vs. tang

A few days ago I transfered some lr from my refugium to my main tank and it had some grape caulerpa grown into it. I left it on thinking the purple tang and brown tang could have a treat. Well they nibbled a little and now don't touch it. So I guess the only way to find out is too try. From what...

    debate 180: reef or agressive?

Solution: Buy 2 tanks!! :D :D Sorry, couldn't resist. Actually I like the reef tanks because of the diversity.

    local sand in tank

I wouldn't recommend beach sand. Just think of the beach as - the oceans protien skimmer. Even with rinsing, too many contaminants.

    Mesh top instead of glass?

I would be concerned about the pendant melting the eggcrate. Plenty of clearance would be needed.

    ? about carpet anemone

I would have to agree with Bang. You may want to see if you can trade it in on a less aggressive anemone. I have a green carpet that came with my tank, and it just took out my regal tang which was 7 inches long. The maroon clown that was hosting it is now getting stung(not seriously) but still...

    Clarkii vs. Sebae opinions

I have a sebae and it is hilarious to watch. It hosts a long tentacled anemone and it never goes far from it. When I feed the fish, it shoots out from the anemone, grabs a piece and shoots back to feed the anemone then shoots back out for another. It definately has personality.

    bubble coral question

I feed my bubble corals a mixture of brine shrimp and these frozen cubes(consisting of mysis. krill, spirilina, brineshrimp, and vitamins). I thaw them out, mix it up with saltwater and feed them with a turkey baster. I feed them 2 times a week. They are doing quite well. My bubbles seem to be...

    Regal Tang injured

Well, my tang didn't make it. Just found him dead this morning. Must have been too much of a shock to his system. Bummer!

    quick question

IMO it probably wouldn't be a good idea to set it up without being there, unless you have someone to top off for evaporation. Plus, if the live rock needs to be cured, the damsels shouldn't be added.

    Regal Tang injured

I have posted before about my carpet anemone stinging my maroon clown. Didn't get too many responses why, so I still haven't figured out why. Now the carpet got ahold of my regal tang, which is about 7inches. The regal was able to get away, but not until he was stung over most of his body. It...

    opinion on halimeda

Just looking for some feed back. I like the way halimeda looks in a reef, and wondering if they are good at removing nitrates.I understand they remove calcium. How fast do they grow? From what I read, the fish do not eat halimeda, so would I have a problem with it growing out of hand.Or would a...

Do I have sufficient equipment for my reef?

IMO not all of the equipment is absolutely needed.I would recommend an RO unit, especially with a larger tank. You really don't want to use tap water because of unwanted contminants in it, and buying water would get pricey. Power heads for water movement and a good skimmer is something else you...

    big bristleworm I think

I got a little carried away feeding tonight, which I am usually careful not to do. Well, there was a little excess food floating around after lights out and I went to look at the crabs cleaning up. I was shocked to see a worm that was at least 6 inches long(6in exposed and more behind a rock)...
