    Can i switch salts?

IO is fine but the levels are a bit low for a reef tank, I believe reef crystals is the same as IO just with better alk and calcium. Oceanic is also a good option for you.

How long can I keep my metal halides?

Some bulbs like Radiums are only good for about 6-8months, I've heard XM's are good from 8-12 months. I wouldn't run a bulb more than a year under normal usage.

    The Right Light

Just go for 2 or 3 96w PC bulbs, that will be by far enough for all soft corals and then some. I'd reccomend a retro kit and build a canopy yourself.

    What's Wrong W/ This Coral?

20ppm nitrates is definatley high but I'm not sure if it would cause this. Did you drip acclimate the coral or just put it in. Is the white area quickly spreading or remaining constant. I don't think lighting is your problem.

    Feeding SPS Corals

I feed cyclopeeze to my fish but occasionally my monti's will grab a few pieces. I wouldn't go out of my way to feed SPS's, they get all they need from lighting and from the water.

    What's Wrong W/ This Coral?

It looks like bleaching. It may have gotten too much light too soon, what kind of lighting do you have and do you know what lighting it came from. It may be bleaching due to stress from being pestered by fish.

    The Right Light

You'd want to go with 96w PC on a 3' tank since the bulbs are 3' long, a 55w bulb is 2' long. I'd be tempted to go with all florescent bulbs on a tank that size, with MH you're probably gonna have heat problems especially if you don't have a sump. Your tank is very shallow so if you went with...

    what would you do

I've got a feeling that the equipment including clamps and such for building a tank of that size would cost hundreds/thousands, the drilling you could have done at a glass shop. BTW the tank I talked about above was built by Oceanic so that goes to show that you're never out of the clear with a...

    Curious ... Blacklight

Its bad for your tank inhabitants, I beleive its something about the UV rays produced or something.

    carbon 24/7?

Yep Phosban or ROWAphos (same thing but different brand, more widely used than Phosban) in a Phosban reactor and running carbon in a Emperor 400 will be good. You can run ROWAphos in a Phosban reactor, they're essentially the same thing but I see more people use ROWA.

    Six-Line Wrasse

They do eat pods though but I'm not sure if they eat prepared frozen food. I'd count on your pods being eaten up quickly.

    what would you do

I'd be kinda weary about building a 200+ gallon tank on my own unless I was a professional. I'd also be weary about buying a tank that big from someone who's not a pro. I just read about someone on another board with a 250 gallon tank who had $20k+ in SPS corals and livestock so IMO the tank is...

    carbon 24/7?

Please be aware there is a BIG difference between carbon and Phosban. Carbon removes organics, yellowing of water, and some chemicals from the water, Phosban only removes Phosphate which is a byproduct of feeding your fish, excess phosphate leads to nusance algae problem.

    carbon 24/7?

What do you mean by ESV, its just a company, the make many products varying from Bionic to carbon and many other. Bangguy said carbon said that carbon lasts 2-3 days I believe and his word is good enough for me, he must have learned a ton over 13,000 posts or whatever he has.

    carbon 24/7?

carbon is not good for a month, I've heard varying reports but most agree that carbon will last from 2-3 days. I keep mine in for a week just because its convenient.

    carbon 24/7?

Reefer44 if you're throwing out your Phosban every 3 weeks you're wasting your money. It should be good for at least 3 months.

    Bring it on Hurricane Charley!!

Make sure to get enough gas for your generator for several days and also oil to do an oil change on the generator.

    carbon 24/7?

It would work better since it fluidized the carbon instead of simply pushing water through it. The only problem I see with using the phosban reactor is its a bit of a pain to change out the media because carbon is only good for less than a week.

    Ammonia!!!!!! Help!!!

4" is barely a DSB, anerobic bacteric dosen't appear till 4" down in a sand bed depending on the grain size, I'm not sure what to tell you but something definately happened

    Big Tanks!

Hey steve what kind of pumps do you use in your system. What do you do when you want to clean the pumps or change media, how do you stop the reactors and pipes from leaking back since I didn't notice any ball valves at the return pumps.
