If I do SPS and can do clams with the T5's, I'd do the reactor just to not have to dose. I'd rather have the tank as automated as possible.

I'm keeping softies now with the VHO's and could probably keep LPS's if I add a calcium reactor(which I would do with T5's and SPS anyway). I guess there would be no reason to switch from 4 VHO's to 4 T5's?

    Lighting

The hood is a unique design...double hinged. There is a 4" piece across the top back that is fixed. Then another 10" that flip up...that is where the bulbs are currently. Allows me to change bulbs without removing the whole hood. Then another 4" piece that flips up for feeding. I'd have to...

    Lighting

I have seen and read about several tanks with many SPS corals with great color and growth under T5 lighting. Some use 6 or 8 bulbs, but I saw one that only uses 4. All are 4' 54watts. My VHO are due for bulb replacement and at about $20-25 each, I'm looking at $100. For $250, I can make a...

    Turboflotor 1000

When working properly, I've found this to be an excellent skimmer. The problem is it seems to get clogged very often. The tube that allows the air in gets clogged at the point where it attachs to the fitting between pump and the skimmer. The tube and this fitting seem to be permanently...

    Coral Growth Question

As I mentioned, they aren't shrinking, just not growing. Do soft corals need as much calcium as hard corals? I'll move them up and try to get some mushrooms for the bottom.

    Coral Growth Question

I was dosing DT's for a while with no results. I'll try moving them higher in the tank. Any recommendations for corals that I can keep towards the bottom? Mushrooms maybe?

Recommended Stock list for a 55g?

I was just re-reading the original post. "I have decided to step up to a 55g reef tank" and "As of now I have a Coral Beauty, two Blue Devils, a scooter blenny, and a Purple Pseudo" Is the tank set up or not? Are there fish in it? If it is up and was recently started, I wouldn't have the...
