I had the same question a while back when my Zoas had threads hanging out of the polyps! They continue to do it presently. A few responses I received said that it's waste. I'm interested in knowing what others believe it is, i'll keep an eye on this thread. Either way, it doesn't seem to be...

I heard these are really hard to take care of. Changes in salinity, ph... and water quality as a whole stresses them a lot. Not only that but I heard they starve. Their main diet is algae but also feed on some meaty foods.
