prizms are a bit of a full time job at first. I hated mine for a long time. My advice is set it real low and wait. If your tank is new there probably isn't all that much for it to pull out. It may take a while, but in time your prizm will start to work a lot better...just try to get used to...

Did you just add the lr? If so...try to shake some of the air loose. I have read, but not expirenced, that trapped air when adding lr can kill what you are paying for (the little critters in the holes). Just a thought.

It can vary...in my fw days, I had strips that were 36" and needed 24" bulbs and 24" strips that needed 24" bulbs. You need to look inside the strip to know and measure between the ends. If you are ordering one, just wait until you get it, measure, and head to your lfs.

The real sick thing is watching munch on the young, possibly their own, after they are released. Life on the reef is tough.
