    Help on filter system!

I have a berlin skimmer that can either be used as a HOB or sump and it worked well in the sump but i upgraded to a euro-reef and that one worked much better. All in all the berlin was good but not impressive as the euro-reef. What model is the berlin?

    Water Top Off

Do you have good surface agitation? I would point a powerhead at the water surface. This will increase your oxygen and should help you keep your ph up and stable. i would not add anymore buffer. You should also get a alkalinity test kit and test since youve been adding buffer.

All you can do is sit back and wait.

Mixing LR with still curing LR

Really the only way to have the cycle faster is to use fully cured liverock. Even with fully cured liverock you may not have enough bacteria to sustain fish and thats why its good to put a cocktail shrimp in the tank to help biuld your bacteria population. No need to rush in this hobby because...

    Water Top Off

8.3 is good. Whats bad is having PH swings. Ive had a tank that always had a ph of 7.8 but it stayed their. Its more important that the ph is stable then the actual number IMO.

    Water Top Off

If your top off water is dropping the tank water then yes I would put a heater in it. What is your PH.

    cycle question

Then Id say its possible that your liverock had plenty of bacteria in it to keep up with the shrimp.

    Brand New Reefer!

75 would give you better control over your water chemistry. Although a 29 would be that difficult for a new reefer. Yes in time all your rock will become live. After your rock has cycled its pretty much live and same withe the sand. As for filter if you have 1 to 1.5# of liverock per a gallon...

    Green Slime

Check your light bulbs to see if they are still good. If they are all you can do is keep your water parameters up.

Mixing LR with still curing LR

Yes you can keep adding liverock it will just take a little longer to cycle most times. 1.5 is normal. Just means youve had alot of die off.HTH

    Help on filter system!

Having 60# of live rock you can get rid of the bio media in the fluva and just run carbon. I have a 30 long as a sump/refugium and it works great. Lifereef makes an excellent overflow. For skimmer I would run either a euro-reef or deltec.HTH

    tank placement

I beleive a protein skimmer is a must. I run carbon for one week out of a month, but dont see any problem running 24/7 365 days a year.

new water results...is my cycle over?

While you are cycling I wouldnt worry about the ph. Whats more important is how stable the ph is. I ran my first tank that was a FOWLR and my ph was 7.8 all the time. If your ph is driffing then theres concern, but if its staying the same then dont worry. I wouldnt add anything to your water...

    tank placement

I dont think it will be too bad. Natural light is good as long is you have your water quality up. Buy a great skimmer and keep up with water changes and ou will be fine.

    Air in sump pump return

It sounds like you have a leak that is drawing air in from the pump. When you shut the pump off do you see any leaking or wetness around the pump intake or suction? Do you have a picture of the setup?
