Light level needed for coraline algea?

the first PC lights I added to my tank where 5500k daylight bulbs and coraline and other things grew like wild fire under them, I had plates and layers of coraline growing off my rock. since then I've changed to 10,000k daylights which looks better but the coraline seems to have slowed down in...

    Things we regret adding?

My Coral Beauty..... I had no problems with him for months. But then last week he decided that he no longer wanted to be reef-safe and started niping at my leather and polyps to the point that they would no longer stay open. So I got rid of him yesterday. I traded him for 3 chromis.

    A Blast from the Past

It's interesting to see how much this hobby has advanced. What kind of lighting did you use back then, just NO fluorescents? I have some old out-of-date books that have pictures similar to that. Does anyone else have an old school sw tank pic?

    Why not halogen lights?

Even 5500k looks yellow to me, That is what my original pc fixture came with and they made the tank look very dingy. But they looked white when you stare directly into the light. halogen bulbs put out a amberish glow, I don't know what to k rating is on halogens bulb, but it must be extremely low.

    Tap, or Distilled H2O????

I agree with justin. I added sand to my CC and now it just looks like CC again. All this sand went to the bottom. Only now I can't vacuum it or I'll suck the sand out. Places where the sand still show aways look cleaner, so someday I want to remove the CC and add more sand.

    which lights?

IMO If you are going to just use the standard Fluorescent lighting, 50/50 bulbs (half actinic, half daylight) would probably be best. But if you want to really see your lr flourish and maybe keep corals someday, I would upgrade the lighting to at least VHOs or PCs. Wattage is just the amount...

    Background color

The back glass of my old tank was completely covered with solid pink coralline too. you couldn't see the background at all. My new tank has awhile b4 it gets like that, but it's starting to develop on the back glass. That stuff seems impossible to get off once its on there.
