Speaking from my own experience, volitans are fast growers! And Definitly need a bigger tank then a 55gal. A 75gal isn't suitable either,JMO. I think one can live quite well in a 90gal+ system. But there are plenty of fish to choose from for your size tank.

How long did it take your Goldentail to get the nice coloring? Mine is still small and has alot of the black marks.

Ah I see so its only 1/2! If you had a 20gal there would be 10gals and if you had a 40gal there would be 20gals. I would get a bigger tank but it would be more money, the lfs is doing it for me for $100 (thats with the tank, plumbing, and plants ).

Try some gulf shrimp. Snowflakes are crusteacen(sp?) eaters and like to eat crabs/shrimp. I stick feed my eel. Try some garlic on the food.
