So I have a question for you guys. And please forgive me. I'm kind of second guessing the 40 gallon. As a beginner should I start out with something smaller? Since I have this 10 gallon sitting around. Should I start with something like that? Just to see if I can do this?

I've heard that about maroons. Which is why I'm staying away from them. Gonna do your normal everyday clowns. Since I think those are the prettiest. I'd like to do some of the high white clowns but don't know how well they would mix with the normal ones.

My wife would kill me if I did that lol. In this little apt. Already have 2 freshwater tanks. When we buy a house she gave me permission to do a 125 or better tank. Plus some other small ones

Go to www.***********.com They have good beginner fish for you. That seem to have personality. Plus other stuff that would be good for a 55. That's my problem though. I'm getting all the stuff I need but can't figure out in my own head what I want to put in.

I told my wife that the tank is going to sit there for a couple of weeks empty while the tank cycles. With live rock that's at my LFS. They have nice stuff there. Like I think the Fiji red LR. Gorgeous stuff.

Yea I don't think that would go over very well in a tank with a dozen fish lol

So I keep the sponge in the refugium all the time until I run my QT. Take it out connect to an air hose through the main hose there? And bam I just leave it be? And it cycles itself? That's nuts lol

The one that I saw was a double sponge. Center hose split into two left and right side. If I do the sponge that's what I want.

I know exactly what you are talking about I saw it on YouTube this weekend. Any idea where I can get that stuff? Outside of air tube and pump?

Ok I just seen that sponge thing. Do I just stick that into the tank by itself? And that would help out a lot?

    New 36 gallon bow front.

Well either way I have to get the new led lights anyway. But it comes with the heater and a bigger filter for when I run the QT tank. Since it's only going to be used periodically again one fish at a time it would be easier to assemble and disassemble. But again it comes with the heater also...

Like the quietflow series of filters? I'll admit that's pretty cool

The 40 gallon set up comes with everything needed that a regular 20 gallon kit comes with. Which the main reasoning behind the kit is the hood that comes with it. Things aren't cheaper and it's cheaper to do the kit then buy separately. But the air pump and sponges how does that work?

Yes I was planning on building a sump myself. Not that hard at all. I was also planning on doing the panels that the refugium sits in between black. That way I can focus light in the refugium and I have less of a chance of having algae growing anywhere else. Preventative measure. I like you...
