    Help FSHHUB & Boomer5

They said that I had enough sand and rock to be the biological filter and that my filters were working against the rock and sand and causing my tank to cycle over and over again. I did forget to tell you about one thing. My powerhead slipped down and blew my sand real hard. In one spot it blew...

    Help FSHHUB & Boomer5

O.K. Ammonia - 0 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - low enough it doesn't register so almost 0. Test come out same at home and at lfs. Problem? Water got cloudy and all but one little clown and 6 blue legged hermits died. Water still test out perfectly. Is that weird or what. I did put the millenium...

    cycled again

Thanks again for all your help. I did make another change... I traded in my mean dottyback for a lemonpeel angel. Couldn't resist. I always did love those. 5 gallons sounds good and easy. Easy would be nice for a change.

    cycled again

I just got back from the lfs and got great news. My water was perfect. Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate was almost 0 and the ph was not 8.6. It looked about 8.2. They told me it was just right too. I could not find the test kits you suggested so I will have to go to another town to see if they...

    cycled again

Thank you for your help. I can use all I can get. Let's see if I can go through this where it will make more sense. 1. I have stopped using Ammonia Lock 2. The tap water purifier is supposed to remove chlorine and chloramine. The box says it makes perfect deionized aquarium water with super...

    cycled again

Do you mean remove the sponge and carbon or remove the whole filter? There is just water cirulating through one filtler and if I take all the media out of the other I will have one on each side that just circulates water.

    cycled again

Do you mean remove the carbon and the sponge or remove both filters from the aquarium completely? I was just wondering -- what do you do when you move rock or get things stirred up a little? How do you get the debris out without filters? Do you just wait and let it settle back down? I know...

    cycled again

The filters were put on the aquarium when I first set it up. When I was in the middle of the ammonia spike you suggested I go ahead and take all of them off since it couldn't get much worse. I did that and it cleared up within a couple of days. I did leave the filters on to circulate the...

    cycled again

I think you may have something. I really don't need it as long as I am not using pure tap water with the cholrine in it. You are right about products not doing what they are supposed to. That is definitely food for thought. I will stop using it and see what happens. It can't hurt and it...

    cycled again

Let's see if I can remember all the questions. 1. I feed once a day. Noone feeds them except me now. No it was not spiteful. The only person here is my 78 yr. old mother and she was just trying to help. We have that problem fixed now though. 2. The tank is in my livingroom 3. I have gone...

    cycled again

You have to admit that 4 years is an awfully long time. I did finally get the ammonia and nitrite down to 0 for quite a while, but the nitrate was off the scale. I finally recently got the nitrate down real low, but then I added a fish and the ammonia and nitrite spiked back up. I got the...

    how much is enoughammonia?

If you are cycling a new tank does the ammonia have to go off the charts or at least real high before the tank is cycled or can the tank cycle with just some ammonia readings? It is a 12 gallon eclipse with 20 lbs of sand with bacteria. I used about 3 or 4 gallons of water from another...

    cycled again

This is not really a new tank, but in a way it is. I have never gotten it stabilized. I have posted before and had a couple of people walk me through getting it stablilized but now it is having problems again. I was told that I had too many filters on the tank and that as much live rock and...

    Ammonia spike

It is doing so well I am afraid of messing it up. That does make sense now. Thank you for explaining it to me. I see the difference in what we are doing now. Is it time to start back doing water changes or do I need to wait awhile? Do I need to get the nitrates back down to 0 or at least...
