    new additions

Nope, most petcos put a trace ammount of copper in the water at all times to keep parasites reasonably under controll. But working at a *****, I know there's a lot of people they hire that don't know a nudibranch from a damsel. :hilarious

    My Water Is Brown!!!

We feed frozen at work, and just take a cup of water straight out of the tank and let it sit in the cup rather than toss the frozen right in. It'll let it thaw out first, and that way you can rinse it in the water, or dip it in a second cup of clean water first. As for frozen algea cube...

    Did I get a deal?

You'd better lock your doors. Despite how heavy it is, somebody will organize enough manpower and take it from you.

    Chaeto vrs coulerpa

Yeah, I've been doing 15% a week, but part time at ***** and car payments mean not enough salt for my tank  oh yeah, *****'s a ripoff for salt btw. lol

    Seahorse Input needed...

Yeah, Teresa's right. Nothing that stings. horses have this habbit of wrapping their tail around something long and skinny to give them support, and they've been known to attach to anenms. I looked into horses at one point but gave up on them over the food issue. Do you feed yours live or freeze...

    Chaeto vrs coulerpa

Thanks guys! I have somebody giving me a small amount of coulerpa already, but I'm going to toss it after I get something else in there. I just need something to take down the nitrates. After I set it up (used 75, came with fish), and kept only about 35% of the water, the nitrates still read at...

    Chaeto vrs coulerpa

Looking up info on different macros, and I wanted everyone's opinion on this one. Which works better on reducing nitrAtes, coulerpa, or chaetomorpha? Also, I heard that coulerpa reproduces sexually, breaks down, and releases nitrates back into the water... or at least the guy selling chaeto...

    Cycling time

I envy you people with low Nitrate. I aquired a 75 FOWLR where the Nitrate tested 100. Took out the CC and put in LS, which droped the nitrate to 70, and am going to put in a great deal more LR (came with maybe 5 lbs :hilarious ). What's your advice on macro? work good enough to buy...

    Tank Transfer Questions

I would probably add only a small amount of the old sand, and let it cycle with that, some LS and some LR. Any crashes that occur will be safely seperate from any of your reef inhabitants. Transfering can be tricky when it comes to reefs, and probably the best thing to do is to move them slowly...

    Setting up Uniquarium

Yes, the purpose for bio balls is to house bacteria, but if you put lots of LR than you pretty much don't need bio balls. As for rinsing them off, yes it does cause dieoff, but only if you rinse it in the sink with cholrinated fresh water. You could still use bio balls in addition to LR, and...

    Starting New Reef

You want to put in about 2-2 1/2" of sand (some will say less, some will say more), but that's about the average depth for a healthy system. You'll want to grab at least one bag of LS, and probably just fill the rest with regular sand, so you don't blow your wallet on just the bottom two inches...

    live rock

If you go with a small protien skimmer, agitation inside the skimmer will definately be enough to oxygenate the water. Rather than exchange gasses at the surface, bubblers in salt tend to leave a film of bubbles, making it look almost like a massive betta bowl. I don't know what other people's...

    Nothing is going right!!!

From what I've found out about sumps/fuges, it's a great idea to run the sump's light cycle reverse of the tank. Murph is right, your PH will fluctuate, but running the fuge opposite of the tank will stabilize it a little better, as long as you have cheato/coulerpa in both or something like...

Chemicals I was told to use - is this overkill?

Yeah, aragmilk can be an expensive item, and if you don't have corals or inverts to absorb calcium out of your water, adding them constantly especially if your buffer is fine is pretty much a waste of money.

    snails,starfish & brittle stars

CC stars generally will eat clams and things of that nature, although I've seen them gnawing on the shell of an astrea before. I usually went to the seafood section of the grocery store and bought a live clam to toss in once a week. Make sure it's small enough though, since grocery stores look...
