    Protein Skimmers on an Eclipse

Sorry, but on a 29 gallon eclipse, that skimmer looks like crap. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of having the all-in-one eclipse. Just my opinion:notsure:

Explain where your user name originated

My family is really into the sport of hockey and my son wears #98 on all of his teams. I had my license plate made up HOCKY98, because you can only have 7 letters. The name works well when signing up on websites since the "E" is omitted. Not real creative, but it works.

    Chocolate Chip Star Feeding?

I got a Chocolate Chip Starfish 5 days ago. He seems to be doing well and likes hanging at the top of the glass in the path of the power jet. My question is...what and how am I to feed this guy? Does he just crawl around eating leftovers or am I supposed to hand feed him?

    cycle done?

No, the Angel really was not eating. I was only offering it flake food and didn't offer any more than I give with just the Damsels. Excess waste was not the issue. My Nitrite levels are peeking right now, so I think even after about a month with 6 Damsels and regular feeding, my tank just...

    Clown Trigger & Volitan Lion...

Thanks for the insite. I am leaning towards the lion because I want other fish. The clown trigger is an amazing looking fish, but you have to sacrifice so much to accomidate one. I may even go with a small lion (Dwarf). Any suggestions that will go good in a community tank with clowns and such?

    Clown Trigger & Volitan Lion...

I corrected my statement about "dwarf". I know eventually they will require a larger tank, but I can cross that road when I get to it. My concerns are if I were to get one or both, what other thing can I put in with the trigger or lion.

    Clown Trigger & Volitan Lion...

I am interested in featuring a volitan lion and/or clown trigger in my 75 gallon tank. What other critters could I put with them that will not be eaten or picked on? I'd like a snowflake eel and maybe some clowns, starfish, etc. How about a cleaning crew? If need be, I could go without one of...

    LR or "NO" LR...?

I have feller rock with holes and coral skeletons for them to hide. As for it being a bio filter, that is what the bio balls do. I don't think the live rock is very attractive unless it is set up as a reef. When it is an established reef, it looks awesome, but a dirty rock with some junk...

    cycle done?

Mike, I am a beginner as well. I started my tank 3 weeks ago and after 2 weeks I had the 0 readings as well. I have 6 Damsels and 2 hermit crabs in my tank during the cycling. I went to the lfs with my 0 readings and added a star and a coral beauty. The star is fine, but the coral beauty...

    LR or "NO" LR...?

My tank is nearing the end of cycling. I have a wet/dry filter with bio balls. I have no lr or ls in the tank. When I set it up, I was told I did not need it with the bio balls. I am hearing that every tank should have at least 1 lb per gallon of live rock. I have a two bulb 40 watts each...

    Coral Beauty is sick...

I'm sorry to say the Angel did not survive. I think maybe the Damsels were attacking it, but I did not see it happening.

    Coral Beauty is sick...

I'm not sure if it was there when it came home. My lfs told me to pull it out and try to remove the flakes and apply an antibaterial ointment. When I did that, I noticed it had holes in the skin. The holes are about an 1/8" round and goes to the meat. They are not lines like in the pictures...

    Coral Beauty is sick...

The raw area is a small spot, not a line, so it may be a bacterial infection, but I'm not sure how to treat it.

    Coral Beauty is sick...

I have a 75 gallon tank that just finished cycling, so I went out and got a coral beauty. I currently have 6 damsels, 2 hermit crabs, and a chocolate chip starfish. My coral beauty has skin errosion behind her side fins behind the head (not sure the name of the fins.) I looked her over and...

Is my tank nearing the end of cycle

I am using the saltwater master test kit with 2 part ammonia and nitrate testers. It is a liquid kit.

Is my tank nearing the end of cycle

I have two hermit crabs. I do not have any live rock or sand, so what kind of cleanup crew do I need other than the 2 crabs I have? I kind of like the damsels and would like to at least keep a couple. A few fish I am interested in is a powder brown tang, a clown (not sure which type), a...

Is my tank nearing the end of cycle

My tank has been up for 3 weeks. I used TLC additive and have 6 damsels and 2 hermit crabs. I use a wet/dry filter and have keep up on all my tests. My numbers were rising a few days ago with my ammonia up around 1. Today my tests read ph 8.2, ammonia 0, nitrites .5, and nitrates 10. I...

    Help with new setup

I take it FOWLR=fish only with live rock? I think this is what I am looking to do. I'd like to put together a small mound in the center with live rock and add some anenomes/shrums etc. to it. With a 75 gallon tank, how much rock must I add and what about lighting, filtration, etc.? Should I...

    Help with new setup

My tank has the standard 4' uv light fixture you get with a 75 gallon tank. The tank has only been setup for 2 weeks, so it has not cycled yet.
