    CPR CS100 Overflow

i use egg crate on my overflow to prevent the fish from going in. the real problem was the snails, thats why the cpr models are great, even if something does get into the chamber it wont get clogged in the u-tube and cause your sump to run dry.

    refugium setup

actually its a 29 gallon tank 30" in length. I have baffles on the intake side of 6" and a baffle on the return side of 10" to fit the skimmer and return pump. The actual refugium area is 14lx12wx22h. I want to slowly replace my current filter(the sump, so I can use it on a new tank). The...

    refugium setup

hello, I am setting up a refugium for my reef tank. I am using an old 29 gallon tank and have already installed the baffles, I am going to use the old protein skimmer but I want this to eventually replace my old sump style wet/dry. I was hoping to get some opinions about different substrates...

Coral Bandit Shrimp with Cleaner Shrimp

As long as you have a large enough tank it should not be a problem. Coral banded shrimp usually only fight each other(unless you could find a pair to mate together). I have both living in my 38 gallon reef and they are fine.

Blue tang's got the ick. um.......help!

now that is see you have corals and inverts I would definatly recomend a cleaner shrimp and say that copper is absolutly out of the question. Kick ich is really slow and kinda pricy but it is reef safe. also since its just on one fish you can try a freshwater dip(the cheapest medicine there is).

Blue tang's got the ick. um.......help!

for starters copper based medications are wonderful at curing disease, there is no controversy there. The problem is COPPER KILLS EVERYTHING. It has a detrimental effect on your biological filter, it will kill any invert that it comes in contact with including shrimp snails and everything that...

    cleaning my tank

the best case scenario is to try and get coraline algae to grow on it, if this is not possible letting regular algae grow is not a real problem. The only real issue would be traped air in the algae or bacteria based algae which you do not want to leave in your tank because it can affect your...

    bubble algae?

emerald or green mythrax crabs will eat this type of algae. but if you only have one scrape it off out side of the tank. It has a tough skin and should not pop with gentle pressure but if it does pop in your tank it can continue to grow and reproduce.

    Instant Ocean....Complete Package

I'm not sure about your AA in NY but the one in OH has the worst prices on accesories in the area. even with the 25% off you could get cheaper stuff on line. I like having wet/dry filters for several reasons, cheaper to maintain, hidden under stand, easier access, you can put other accesories...

How long to wait before i add fish?

is there any live rock or sand in the tank? If there is none I would think about adding some before getting any fish. My favorite money saving scam is to use tufa rock, put about 15-30 pounds on the bottom and then put another 20-30- pounds of live rock on the top. the tufa will become live...

    Lights on all the time?

no, you can leave your actinics on at all time but turn off your daylights at night. even algae has a day and a night time cycle. I would guess that cynobacteria would out grow your coraline if you did this.

    need help for new tank

for a 10 gallon I would probably go with a hang on skimmer/filter like a skilter and power compact lighting with a 50/50 bulb. to save money buy 10-15 pounds of tufa rock for the bottom and another 10-15 pounds of live rock. fish on the other hand is up to you, keep em small and friendly.
