can i run mostly actinics and only a little mh?

It's hard to see actually what it is, but from the sound/look of it, probably a calurpa species. When I first saw it, I immediatly thought of the dreaded Bryopsis Algae (Bryposis plumosa). But what turned me off the idea was that you said that your Tang and snails have consumed it. With that...

can i run mostly actinics and only a little mh?

Personally, It looks like the lamps are within normal limits. If you are using some sort of glass or acrylic pane ontop of the aquarium, remove it and use a fan to blow across the top of the water. This will drop the temp to a more favorable zone, but increase evaporation rates. If you live in...

    !!!starting to get frustrated!!!

I use the regular, store bought, ground pepper. Usind an upside-down spoon and a paper plate, on a solid surface will crush the pepper to a "fine" consistancy. Mix only a pinch of it into your potion. Load up your syringe (w/o the needle) and squirt the paste into the mouth of the villian...

    Hard, Green, Algae...

You might want to check your PO4-Calc-Alk-Mag levels. Try raising the Alk levels and use some sort of chemical bag or absorber to reduce your PO4 levels. Limit the amount of food(s) containing phosphate. This will help to reduce and proliferation of undesirable algaes. GL

    !!!starting to get frustrated!!!

Add a little black pepper to the mix. For some reason, the pepper seems to be the trick to make sure they consume your tonic. I've tried just using a basic calc paste before with only a 50% success rate. By adding the ground black pepper, it seems to have elevated my success rate to over 90%...

    mh lights

Remember: Most of the species of corals found inside a reefers aquarium come from zones located inside the Tropic of Capricorn and Cancer. Inside these zones, sunlight is guaranteed to be about 12 hours per day. By limiting the amount of light to your specimens, your basically starving them of...

Can you fill up a new tank with tap water.

Just a little FYI, I agree that a water evaluation chart supplied by your local/district DWP will help in making your determination, but the DWP only tests for a little over 200 different chemicals and elements. Since WWII, the US has made over 50,000 different chemicals. Most of which are...

    six line and yellow wrasse

OK, I'll be first. This is what I have experienced with both species. 1). They are both very attractive, alluring species. 2). Unless you keep a DSB, most likely the Yellow Wrasse will become fish jerky eventually. (Lids are necessary with this species). Yellows grow larger than their kin...

    Starfish Help PLEASE

When acclimating Starfish/Urchins and the likes of, Temp and SG are key. Acclimate very slowly by adjusting the temp by floating the bag/container for about an hour. (Possibly more time may be needed) Remove 1/10th - 1/8th of the water volume in the bag/container, and do a slow drip with the...
