    MegaFlow Sump Filter

I've got the model 1 on my reef ready 55 and I love it. I still use the bio balls and have never had a 'trate problem, mine stay at or right around 0. I think most people pass the "nitrate factory" thing around as hear say. If you clean some of your bioballs every now and again with saltwater...

    Bubbles in U tube

When I ran an overflow box I found the best way to get bubbles from not building in the U tube is to speed up the flow (return pump) going into the overflow box. When I had my return pumps ball valve cut back there would be times when one large air bubble would form. It was never enough to...

    Old Stagnate Tank

A friend of mines 75 gallon has been sitting for about 6 months. Somehow his cleaner shrimp and a bunch of snails are still alive and kicking. Anyway, if I move them from his stagnate tank to my tank do I need to worry about disease or anything coming with them. I know fish can get ich obviously...

To Sump or not to Sump

If you're looking for a wet/dry sump, you might want to look at a certain doctors website at the megaflow sumps. I bought one for my 30, upgraded to a 55 and it's always worked great. I couldn't be happier with the quality of it either. For an overflow box you might want to look into lifereef...

    Internal Overflow Fuge?

Does anyone use their internal overflow in a reef ready tank as a fuge, or is that even possible? I've got an AGA reef ready tank with the "megaflow" overflow in the side and it looks like an ok place to put some macro algae or something? The halides still get to it and it obviously gets some...

    Nice tank w/out sump/fuge

Yes you can still do an overflow on a 55. They just work off of a perm siphon to carry water over the back wall of the tank and down to your sump. Then your return pump carries it back to your display tank. My suggestion on overflows is LIFEREEF. IMO they are the best on the market. Mine never...

    Upgrade Question

Keith, thanks for the post. I might take your advice on that. I really would hate for it to take that long because I need the place where the old tank is sitting. lol I know this hobby requires LOTS of waiting though.

    Upgrade Question

I thought about doing that SaGxMAN, but I told my brother I would give him the old tank. (I'm a great guy. lol) So I might just get a few scoops out of it to make sure some critters in the sand bed make it over to the new tank.

    Upgrade Question

Thanks for response guys. I'll look into getting something to put the livestock into. I've only got one piece of coral (zoos) and two fish (chromis) to move over, so it shouldn't be that bad. I had thought there might be a small cycle but I didn't know if it would be enough to hurt anything. I...

    Nice tank w/out sump/fuge

I've seen a quite few really nice tanks that weren't running sumps. Theres a 55 gallon reef tank at a LFS here that is beautiful. The tank runs nothing but a hang on back filter, power heads, and skimmer. I have to say though, I have enjoyed my tank more after I installed my sump. Its nice not...

    Upgrade Question

I'm upgrading my 29 to a 55. I'm using the same aqua C skimmer, phosban reactor, wet/dry sump, live rock, and water from the old tank. I started the process last night and I want to make sure I'm on the right page. I mixed 25 gallons of Ro water and salt in the new tank and I'm letting it run...

    What is this??

The tank has only been running for about 2 months. It finished its cycle and got balanced out around 3 weeks ago. I've got about 15 pounds of live rock that came from a well established reef tank, and about 15 pounds of rock that was live a while back but had since dried out. The "dried out"...

    this might sound stupid

From what everyone says, its best not to use sand/rock/water from the beach due to the things so close to shore that can pollute your tank. I have no first hand with it I'm just telling what what I've read. Hope it helps

    Does this sound right? (sump)

Thank you again Murph. Now I understand where to drill the hole and why to drill the hole I just don't fully understand how it works to help with an outage. Thats the way I am though, I'm the nerdy type that will sit down and take stuff apart until I figure out how it works, lol. It's not from a...
