    Blue Fish

How about a blue assessor, Assessor macneilli? They're mild mannered but may also be a problem around shrimp perhaps...I'll look into it and get back with ya. The only problem is that they're hard to come by. One LFS near me had them pretty often for a few months and I haven't seen them...

    Oyster Reef Ecosystem Tank Plan

After the "cube" stand has been completed, then we'll build the sump stand. Here are some facts related to the stand: Legs = 4X4 Top and bottom frames and the bracing = 2X4 Top = 3/4" plywood Sides = 1/2" plywood Finish = stone laminate and wood trim Here's a pic of my original plan: At first...

    Oyster Reef Ecosystem Tank Plan

Here's the frame upright after adding supports: Another angle showing supports: Here's after we've added the two sides and the top. It's laying on the back, front is up. We've removed the bottom front brace so that we can get this thing out of his place and into my house. Actually, later...

    Oyster Reef Ecosystem Tank Plan

There's a guy locally that builds custom tanks kind of out of his basement. I'm going to use foam on the back wall and have it viewed from three sides... Latest update: Things are much slower getting this project together than I had planned. Hopefully I'll have everthing up and running and the...

    Round Goby????

Zues, in the past I've kept brackish fish from my region and am in the process of establishing another brackish tank that I will eventually increase to marine levels. I would think that if you just took the process slow enough to and at a constant rate so taht the fish don't get stressed too...

    Oyster Reef Ecosystem Tank Plan

I thought about it. Small ones would be OK but they grow extremely fast, and adult blue crabs will prey on the blennies. Since the blennies are the feature fish of this tank I'm leaving the predators out. Their natural enemies in the bay are the blue crabs, striped bass, and oyster toadfish...

    For those that have Basslets

Swissguard and candycane basslets will hide a lot, so maybe best to avoid those. Royal Grammas, black cap basslets and pseudochromids are usually out in the open a lot once they acclimate to your tank. However, large aggressive fish in the tank may cause any small fish to hide.

    Oyster Reef Ecosystem Tank Plan

Well, I am so stoked, I picked up my tank last night. It's a custom acrylic cubish tank, 36"X36"X18", about 100 gallons. Here is the sump, 36"X17"X18", the fuge is on the right, but I'm planning on natural filtration right now, no skimmer at this point in time, so the middle section will be...

    went to the aquarium

This is a blenny commonly called a "barnacle blenny" or sometimes referred to as sailfin blennies or tube blennies of the genus Acanthemblemaria. They don't get very big, about 2" maximum, and are carnivores that, in the wild, feed on zooplankton. They are generally peaceful to tankmates and...

It would be useful to many to post the site rules/policy in the FAQ section too. I tried to find them and couldn't. Actually, it's kind of weird because there are a lot of folks on here that have used and mentioned Fishbase and nobody accused them of being a violator!

    Blenny problem, need advice

It's possible that they may never get along, and perhaps the linear blenny might kill any fish that occupies the same bottom dweller niche or unless that other bottom dweller can handle itself in a fight (like a hawkfish). The problem with this is that even though fighting may be reduced this...

do all blennies help keep algae in check?

No, not all blennies prefer algae in their diet. Barnacle blennies (genus Acantemblemaria) are plankton eaters, and some, like molly millers will sometimes eat algae but more often prefer meaty foods. Most of the blennies offered in your LFS are often algae eaters. There are many blennies that...
