    WorrBaller's 40b of AWESOMENESS!!!

Most of the time the tank is the only thing I clean around my house too. Until the wife gets mad then I might unload the dishes lol. Oh and vacuum, I kinda like vacuuming. And you're right about tank maintenance being relaxing. My wife gives me time for myself to do it and the kids are...

So I changed 10g this morning. If I'm not careful this might become habit lol. I'm really glad I'm sticking to my schedule. So far its worked. Haven't tested the water in a long time. The test kit I have is a few years old and I don't think I can trust it any more anyways. I haven't seen my...

Tried to make the tank quiet but it is now louder

So I tried to make my tank quieter. Just messing around with it really; the noise wasn't too bad. Well, now it is. I thought I'd be able to drill a hole in the overflow pipe above the water line in my sump so the air would have a place to escape instead of making bubbles (and therefore noise)...

Got my CUC minus the nass. I don't think it is necessary at this time. I have about 2 or 3 big guys and a conch so that should work for picking up the scraps. Got the Phoenix 14K and it is amazing, perfect balance of white and blue (for my tastes). Once I get my cleaning regimen on track...

    WorrBaller's 40b of AWESOMENESS!!!

Tomorrow is an exciting day. I get to spend money on my fish tank again! Yay! I plan to head to my LFS to pick up 8 cerith, 8 trochus, 2 nass and 2 emerald crabs to beef up my CUC. I'll also get a new bulb for my FNI 150w MH, a Phoenix 14k. Additionally I'll get some cheato and a 6500k and...

So I took the initiative and cleaned the tank today. Took 3 hours but it is done. Changes 15 gallons, scrapped the back glass, and siphoned up the diatoms on the sand. Feels so good to have a moderately clean tank again. Plus I finally hooked up this 1/15hp chiller my friend let me have...

Down-sizing, do I have too many fish to pull it off?

Not that bad just algae everywhere. Hair algae, I believe. But it looks dusty, either way its gone now. That's right I took 3 hours out of my day to change 15 gallons and scrub the algae off the back glass and suck up the diatoms on the sand. Looks so much better. Plus I hooked up this...

Down-sizing, do I have too many fish to pull it off?

That's encouraging. It would be, at most, a year with those fish if it works out. I think my biggest dilemma is deciding whether to man up about maintenance on the 40 or simplify with this plan.

Down-sizing, do I have too many fish to pull it off?

Currently I have a 40b that is in disrepair because of a lack of maintenance schedule. I have decided to pack it up for the time being while I am in school to save the inhabitants. Before I do that I would kick myself for not trying to make it work with a simpler tank. So my plan is to...

I would love to get an RO/DI but it just isn't in the budget right now. Plus I have a hard time thinking of was to make it work for drinking water also.

Cool, sounds simple enough. I was thinking the same thing but I thought the debris would hurt the PH. Do you have an RO unit or do you go somewhere to get your water?

How do you get all the floaties and things that settle on the sand and rocks? Does that stuff harm the powerhead?

I do still get a lot of joy from the tank, even though it is dirty right now. I would set it back up once I'm out of school but I'm 80% sure my plan now is to keep to a routine somehow. What are your guys' procedures for making water changes easier?

Also I just have to say I love this forum over some of the other boards out there. I posted the same question in that other forum a few days ago and zero responses. Thank you so much for the quick responses.

True I forgot about that 4th option. My wife (who rolls her eyes at this hobby), acutally suggested it. I can do the maintenance at night when I usually have time. Tank maintenance instead of a movie :/

Wow! Talk about neglect. This thread and my tank currently. So I have zero time between two kids, wife, full-time school and full-time work. Therefore my tank hasn't gotten the attention it needs. I currently have an algae outbreak but I don't think it is catastrophic, just a really ugly...

Thank you! I finally got the right side the way I want it. More places to put corals and some nice caves. Really wish I could find my camera.
