    chemistry help needed

Test kits came from a mail order company about a month ago. didn't seem bad, and in good condition new in bag, but now I'm not sure. I have been dosing with Kent A&B. The A seemed to be the Calcium and the B the buffer. Although when I placed the buffer in the sump, the milky substance would...

T I thought there had to be some relationship, but didn't know if it was inverse or what. I trust the pH probe. I would think it would be more reliable than the tests.

Is Mag ever too high? I have some mag supplement, but as I have read from may past posts, don't dose what you can't test for. I haven't dosed, but if I overshoot, then what happens? Sounded like good advice to me. How long can the corals go with low alkalinity without suffering too much...

Forgot...salt is Oceanic in the blue bucket. And as luck would have it, just bought a new bucket last weekend. To be honest, I have never tried another brand of salt. This one has always been ok with me. I'm open for suggestions. Sorry about the bump. couldn't get my keyboard to backspace...

    chemistry help needed

Thanks for the replies. I had read on back of bottle to not dose more than 1/2 ml per gallon per day. Well, that means 125 gallons with 15-20 gallons (I guess) for the sump. Then the max per the bottle could be 72 mls per day. Than sounds like alot and I am very hesitant to dose that much...

    2 basslets together?

I guess I got lucky. I had one chalk basslet and before I was educated in this hobby bought another. The acclimation process was ugly at best. The dominant basslet almost ate out his eye. After all the harrassment, they finally left him alone. Took him about three days of sitting on the...

    help identify

I received this chili coral from swf.com in the mail and got this extra gift on the rock. I don't know what it is. It started coming out in a couple of days and now each frawn is pulsating. What are the lighting requirements since the chili is no-light? What do I feed and how often? TIA.

Project Fishroom underway for new 240 setup

I just noticed this incredible thread and can I say what lucky fish you are going to have. I will be sitting on the edge of my seat waiting on the next post. I thought that this hobby was addicting...now I can't get to my tank for wanting to read about what everybody else is doing.

Which protien skimmer for a 55 Gallon

I too have a 55 and the remora aqua C. I think it does great for that size tank. The only caution I would give is that since it hangs on the back of the tank, if you have set up the tank too close to the wall, you will not be able to fit it on the back. You could consider placing it on the...

    refugium question

My tank has been established for about two months with a fluval 404 and nitrates in the 10-20ppm range. I am considering removing it and using a refugium which from what I have read is much much better. My question is, since the tank isn't drilled, I'm not sure about the water flow out of the...

    high nitrates...help

Thanks for the replies. I will do another water change today. I agree, that I need to change the corals in the tank around. I understood that the corals needed a little more llight than the stars and polyps, so I placed them towards the top. Right now I am running 65 x 4 power compact...
