6700k RotaryGeek made a good point you could add a ph in the sump your looking to be around 25 times the volume of your DT per hour. this will help keep the detris falling on the sand bed and the cheato loose enough that all of the cheato is eating

I wouldnt put a top on the tank because youll throw off you air extange with your water, and your nitraits. you can get lexan (a good bit thiner than standerd plexie) from home depot and if you have to ziptie it in place its still worth it IMHO
