I think the one of the main purposes of baffles in the sump are to prevent bubbles. I'll try and draw you a picture, but all you have to do is look at any commercially made sump.

The GFCI thread got me thinking about the circuit I am going to be putting my tank on. I'm not exactly sure if I have enough amps going to the outlet that I'm going to plug everything into. Is there a way to find out the amp draw on our electronic equipment? Also do they sell GFCI powerstrips...

yeah my sides are only 18" long, but right now I'm thinking of just having a fowlr and not having a ton of rocks. I'm almost settled on doing the 2 sided option. I just plan out exactly where I should put it in the room.

I actually haven't got it up and running yet. I'm still piecing everything together. So I'll let you know when its up and running. It will be what I showed. That price is going to change to depending on the season. I think electricity prices go up in the summer and down in the winter.

Its been awhile since I updated this, but I now have a ro/di unit ($50 locally). Next is a skimmer and a sump. I should be drilling the tank this comming up weekend.

Very cool. The video on youtube is pretty good, so I know it can be done. The videos on drilling into tempered glass are funny to watch though. Fortunately I'm not drilling into anything tempered.

ok nevermind I found a wiring diagram. I don't think there should be any reason for me to buy a new ballast. I'm rewiring everything with higher heat grade wires to prevent that from happening again.

Anyone have one? I have a MH kit right now that works, but the front switches are bypassed and I would like to hook them back up again. For some reason they shorted out and the previous owner never felt like replacing them. I have a 2 x 400w hamilton ballast shown below.

I just ordered my supply from glass holes. Can I drill my hole on the side of my tank without having to flip it on its side?

Say for example I have a 400w hamilton magnetic ballast for a single mogal base, can I put in any 400w bulb? Or does it have to be a hamilton? I thought there was a sticky on this a couple weeks back but can't find it anymore.

Score! my siliconing worked. Now I have to pick up a 400w mh/ 94pc fixture on thursday. Found a couple of people with a sump and skimmer. I'd say within a month I should be cycling everything.
