Should I through the sandbed out?

I would start syphoning the sand during water changes. I gave up "not touching the sandbed" awhile ago and started just syphoning it clean during water changes. There's still life, and eveything is doing better. I simply did NOT have enough sandbed life, as many others don't, to keep the bed...

    Gmail invites...

Gmail "scans" all your mail. It's not secure. All your mail is read via robot so they can target advertise. Same thing as spyware IMO. It is also VERY easy to hack.

    What's with the Underlined words...??

adaware is much better and more frequently updated than spybot in my opinion. I think it works on one of those, but not the other, or maybe both by now with new reference files. Download adaware...it may remove it. Get "highjack this" as well as spywareblaster, and cwshredder....some of these...

Help me get my manda back!

I've lost several loves, and it always seemed like the end of the world. but if I hadn't, I wouldn't be with the girl I am now. 6 years so far and I love her more every day. If any of those other relationships had struggled further, maybe I would have missed this one. It always hurts, but have...

Should I LOSE This Rock ?

Hair algae is almost DEFINATELY present already in the tank, and everyone elses for that matter. It is nearly impossible not to introduce hair algae spores to a tank. I would worry more about the aiptasia. Even when they are kalk nuked, there may be enough left to grow.

    Book???

Aquarium Corals by Eric Borneman is one of the best books out in my opinion, but one of the good starter books is The Marine Aquarium Problem Solver by Nick Dakin....Nick covers all the basics and more, and also has question and answer type of info. Very good starter book. :)

Need to know about a shark

I really don't think anyone was harsh about it, so why give up on a beautiful hobby just because a shark isn't the right thing? We are talking about real actual sharks here, and even the larger SW angelfish are recommended in atleast 125 gallon tanks. If a shark is the only option for you, then...

    Reef Lighting By C Marlowe

I was deciding on how long I was going to put there, and I was going to say one year , but six months assures proper function. Since I was thinking about 1 year possibly anyway, I will change it just for you. :) Thanks for the compliment! It is very appreciated!

    Reef Lighting By C Marlowe

When it comes to lighting a reef tank, it really depends on what you plan to keep in it, and how much light is required for the creatures you would like to have. First lets look at why corals even need light since they are not plants, but animals instead. Alot of people don't realize that the...

    Red splotch on stingray

I have had a small yellow stingray for about two years, and he has always been in perfect health and happy. Recently I noticed that a small red "splotch", for lack of a better term, has developed on his disc below his eye. It's been about a week, and it hasn't spread or changed really. Other...

    Help with an ID

Touch it with something, other than your hand obviously, and see if it shoots back in. Kind of sounds like an aiptasia anenome.

    0 Nitrate Obsession

High nitrates can cause poor appetite, insipid coloration, fin rot, etc. A tank that has achieved a good balance will be able to export nutrients faster than they are imported. Nitrates are a good indicator of general tank performance and IMO we should shoot for 5 or less at all times. BTW yes...

    How man hermits and snails?

That depends on your tank and what you want. Just as my opinion I would add 50 snails to start and maybe 30 scarlet reef hermits. Some people want nothing to do with hermits, but the scarlets seem to be much less aggressive than blue leg hermits which will spend their day killing snails and each...

    Whats the deal

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!! More power to you! Sometimes making changes to a perfectly running tank because the "experts" told you it had to be done, will cause more problems then if you had just left it alone. [ June 24, 2001: Message edited by: C Marlowe ]

    Nature's Oceans LS

A detritivore kit is want you want to bring the sand to a live state. Not a clean up crew, and not the creatures drifting down from the rocks. These are completely seperate organisms. The sand you received is nice looking, and it will work well, but as you have noted, there is a serious lack of...

    I hate my LFS

Death by hydrogen sulfide is more an urban legend than reality. Energy production by cells in the anaerobic zones favor nitrates, whereas sulfate is favored in the lower oxygen free anoxic areas. In normal circumstances the production of hydrogen sulfide can actually be a benificial product of...

    Flame Angels

My flame picked at most everything at first, but after a few stings and a little time, he realized what to eat and what was not food. Now he leaves every coral alone. Picking at corals is often normal with this fish, but it is alot different than if he was eating them. No corals were seriously...
