what is this growing on my live rock

I saw what you are talking about in my LFS.It was like a rust red color flowing paper attached to a blue mushroom rock.I asked at the store and they said it was a macroalgae.I wanted to buy but they said as a macroalgae it would probably be eaten by my Purple Tang.

    Lighting and coral choices

I have a 135 gal tank with flourescent lighting. It has just 200 watts.Half in Actinic 3 and half in 20,000 K bulbs.I want to stock the tank with Soft Corals and just a few fish.I do not want to change wood canopies or add Metal Halides.I have read information on the corals and I came up with the...

The same thing happened to me.When I went to throw out the worm I felt the tube contract. It should feel firm and fell like it is contracting. The feather takes awhile to grow back.

    Alkalinity/Calcium/pH/hardness?

You are write on ph.Alkalinity and carbonate hardness are similar. It is usually refered to as dkh.It is measured normally in meq and should be around 3.2 -4.5 meq. Some kits like the Hagen dkh kit measure in ppm.1meq=50ppm so I run my tank between 160ppm-220ppm.Calcium is totally different.I...

His head will grow back, right?

They don't have to be breeding because they also lose feathers under stress.Wait two to three weeks to see if starts to come back out. Also watch for the tube to degrade. If it does that is not a good side.In my experience.

    Chemicals to the tank

Strontium supposedly Strengthens the hold of the Corals to the rock.It however is found in the salt when you do water Changes. It is also supplied by live sand if you have any.Even though it is a trace element of natural Salt Water there has been no positive evidence it is needed.Whatever you...

    good or bad??

I got Calupera for my tang and angel to eat. They pick at it but not eat all.If you feed them enough other foods as well as Romaine or Sea weed they leave this alone. As long as the hair algae doesn't take over the plant will help consume Nitrate.

His head will grow back, right?

I have found that ifjust the feather comes out it may be due to stress and the feather grows back. You can check to see if worm is still alive by touching tube. You can fell it contract. If the worm comes out with the feather it will not come back.Feather takes about 3 weks to start coming back out.

    Chemicals to the tank

If you do water changes you probably don't need the Strontium. What is your Ph and Alkalinity?I would add a ph buffer and maintain your alk at 3.5-4.5 meq.Ph 8.2-8.4.What is smorgasbord?

    5 gal micro reef

I have a 6 gal. Eclipse tank set up with live sand and LR.I fixed the built in filter so the water flows through a little foam for mechanical then through Cel-Por block then through a Bio-Wheel.Working good.I would stick with just soft corals.Polyps, mushrooms, colt coral,Ricordia,cauliflower...

    MUSHROOMS

I just use 60 watts VHO and 60 watts Actinic in a 6 ft. tank.My Ricordia is hardier than my mushrooms.I have found something that will kill Mushrooms and not Ricordia. That is that Invertebrate safe Kick Ick.Polyps and Ricordia doing fine.I use Reef Complete,Kent PH Buffer and Iodine.
